Smoked turkey question

    My son received a smoked turkey from his employer. Never having had a commercially smoked turkey, we're not sure how to prepare it.

    It seems to be vacuum-packed, Schwab's brand. Do we just heat it through? Could we put it in the roaster that we normally use for a regular, frozen turkey? Would it be better done in the oven?

    On the packaging, there should be instructions printed somewhere. If it's precoocked, then all you need to do is to reheat it. If it's not, then it should be prepared just like a regular turkey.

    No instructions on the packaging, checked for that 1st.

    Smoked turkeys are typically precooked. You can just reheat it in the oven, but I'd use a meat thermometer. Bake at about 325 degrees. When the interior is 185 degrees, the bird should be done.

    Thanks for the link, Jerome.

    Succulent and delicious, Schwab's Hickory Smoked Turkey will add a special touch to any meal. We carefully select each Turkey from Grade-A young hens. Then we cure and hickory smoke each one for over ten hours for that signature Schwab back home flavor. Fully cooked-ready to eat!

    BTW    , if anyone wants a spiral-sliced honey ham, Schwab's are top-notch!

    Somewhere around 1pm, at my mom's house. There will be ham, also. And candied sweet potato's, fresh cranberry relish, hot rolls, broccoli casserole, pumpkin pies, MMMMMmmmmMMMMMMmm good!

    My sister in law asked if there would be ham at my house, to which I replied, "Well, I'll be there, so yes, there will be a ham in the house".

    Obviously, I won't be there, but know that my prayers for your family will be there.

    Thanks. This is the 2nd thanksgiving since my little sister died, and I don't think Carl is going to bring the kids around. He and my Mom don't get along.

    Same to all members of the BB (employees, staff, volunteers, participants, sponsors AND lurkers:smilewinkgrin:)

    Taught the "EXPLORE THE BIBLE" series lesson (Sou Bapt for you wayward folk) yesterday, and had a quote from Charles Dickens to the effect that we should have "thanksgiving" 364 days of the year, and 1(one) day for all the complaining!!

    Gonna try to practice that!!

    This is our first Thanksgiving as a family. We are staying home. Carl did talk to your mom on Saturday to let her know he would bring the kids over to her house in the evening, as we're having an early dinner.

    I considered making a sort of "open house" at our place and invite people to drop in, but still being in the recovery stage from surgery and this being our first major holiday together, maybe Christmas would work out better.
