I was actually amazed to learn that some Christians think hunting is wrong. While opinions and arguments can be made for both sides, what does the Scripture say? Here are some that I believe apply to the subject of hunting.

    Hunting is Lawful, yet regulated:

    Leviticus 17
12Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood.

13And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust.

14For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.

    Hunting is considered diligent work
The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious. Proverbs 12:27

Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. Gen 9:3

It is therefore right and good and lawful to hunt. No one can presume the motivation of every person that hunts. To do so is foolish. The hunters I know and friends I have hunted with hunt as meat hunters...meaning their primary purpose is to put food on the table for themselves and their families. They also enjoy hunting the game and find it to be a skill and an act of hard work and diligence which is very rewarding.

I dont' think anyone said hunting in and of itself is wrong. What has been maintained is that killing for the pleasure of killing or for the enjoyment of seeing an animal suffer, is wrong. I can't imagine that anyone, hunter or not, would disagree with that.

Ok, maybe I misunderstood. And I agree with you, I can't imagine anyone who would agree that killing for the enjoyment of killing or for seeing an animal suffer is right and good. I thought hunters were being characterized as people who hunt only because they take pleasure in killing and enjoy seeing animals suffer.

I think the argument has been that anyone who hunts isn't killing for the enjoyment of killing or for seeing an animal suffer. Most hunters are mature and discerning. But it cannot be denied that there are some hunters that kill for the enjoyment or for the thrill of seeing an animal suffer. There seems to be this notion that we cannot call those hunters out without bringing shame to all. Understandable, I suppose, but not necessary.

I suppose it's possible that such a person exists, I just have never met one.

My son killed a deer this weekend. I'm proud of him for having the ambition and skill to learn how to hunt for his own food in a place other than the grocery store :)

    BTW - he's a bow hunter.

Watch out when your boy suddenly wants to grow his hair long and you see baldheaded birds(feathers missin') around the house and blond headed men resemble General Custer!!

    Just kiddin', Peggy, just kiddin'

    LOL!

The funny thing is that my son is very conservative, and he is going to a liberal, liberal arts college. He doesn't get to brag about his hunting skills there, haha!

IMO, the only difference in buying meat at the grocery store and hunting for it is that you pay someone else to butcher and dress the animal.

Not having completely read the previous thread regarding hunting, it's possibly someone else has already pointed out that fact (maybe even me/myself/I).

I've read a lot of the posts on the threads concerning hunting and relate with most of the viewpoints. I was raised immersed with guns all around me; my father and older brother being gunsmiths in their own right, building, modifying & repairing firearms, reloading ammo, target shooting, hunting, etc.. I took guns for granted and have owned many during my life, yeah, some I wish I still possessed and regret trading them off now.

To derive pleasure from killing just for the sake of killing? I'm ashamed to say from experience that, IMO, there's nothing much more bloodthirsty than a 10 year old boy with a BB gun. I am not proud at all (I was then though) of some of the critters I killed for no good reason during my youth in the early days of hunting, whether it was with a BB gun, pellet rifle, .22 rifle, .410 shotgun, bow& arrow, traps of all kinds, etc,. But I 'outgrew' it (maybe some don't or never have the chance to outgrow it), and I find myself on the opposite end of the spectrum now, with a deep appreciation for all of God's creatures. Perhaps those bloodthirsty days are a phase that some hunters go through. I don't know. Anyway, nowadays, I've got many types of nut/fruit bearing trees that I've planted on my property over the years, and much of the steep hillsides I've stopped mowing to provide habitat for the birds and the critters. Nowadays, I derive great pleasure from being able to look out my window and catch a glimpse of the squirrels, ground hogs, rabbits, chipmunks, and songbirds that live all around us. I derive pleasure in the fact that I've provided a spot for them to live. These critters also provide great entertainment for our outside dogs and cat, and, yes, they do occasionally catch them.

But don't get me wrong, I've no qualms about killing to eat at all. My wife still deer hunts. I personally don't care if I never kill another one. We live a little over a mile from the KY River and do a lot of fishing, to eat of course. :)

I've got some nice venison biltong in my bag to snack on later. I handed some out to family and friends at Thanksgiving and I thought they were going to tear the house down to find more.

...by the way, saw the biggest fox I've ever seen this morning. This thing was huge. It was coming from the general direction of my chickens, but didn't appear to have bothered them.

I know of at least two of them on our farm, but it looks like the dogs are sending the message to them that the chickens are off limits.

Now, if I can just get my one dog to stop bugging the cows, we'll be in business.

I used to hunt before I was a Christian with my brother and his shotgun, blast anything that took to the air or ran on the ground.

In France hunting is big, they hunt for sport which I don't like, hunt to eat, I have no problem.

    Guess we are all different.

When I was in Tennessee, we used to hunt alot. I love venison and hog.

But now in Florida, it's fishing. Nice thing about fishing is that you can throw back what you are not going to eat or are too short to keep. Had sea bass over thanksgiving, but all the grouper I caught the other day were too small but it was fun catching them.
