    Who Wrote This?

"And also we have many promises and warnings of God concerning Israel that they "are the apple of His eye" and "Those who bless you I will bless and those who curse you I will curse". I take all those verses seriously and don't want to play into the hand of anti-semitic "Christian" groups who, not content with misunderstanding New Testament promises of grace and reward and want to ransack the Old Testament as well and greedily suck up all of the promises to Israel and make them their own - leaving to Israel only the curses. These are Replacement Theology extremists who grieve the Spirit and are ignorant of the Word."

Now tell me - who wrote this? And do you agree with it?

    More later.

Tom, I have no idea who wrote it but it evidently came from a 'blue dog' dispensationalist or Christian Zionist (or Zionist); I googled it with no luck.

I most definitely do not agree with the statement.

(Google 'accused of anti-semitism'; 900,000 results. It takes VERY little to have that accusation brought on you these days; wait till the hate speech laws come)

Let's take it point by point
    Why yes, the
Bible does say this about Israel. No problem here.
I take them seriously as well. Is there anyone here who does not take the statements of the Bible seriously? Stand up and identify yourself, I say.
I sure don't want to play into the hands of anti-semitic "Christian" groups such as..........well, I just don't want to play into their hands.
More bad ideas here. I don't think I want to do any of this.
Yeah! These people, whoever they are, are ignorant extremists. Be done with 'em, I say.

    Agreed.

I was the one who wrote that diatribe - back in 2000, in a Dispensational group that I had started, ABC_Bible.

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ABC_Bible/message/929

I was somewhat embarrassed when, looking through the archives of that group, I rediscovered that post. Actually quite embarrassed. But then I realized that it was also a good lesson for me. Here I was being very harsh, basically saying that those of Reformed belief "misunderstood grace" (when I was the one who misunderstood) and implying that they may not even be saved. I had only the faintest clue on some of the things I so confidently asserted.

I just posted that to remind myself to be kind in my writing. And to show that people do change their beliefs.

Also, because some have written me implying that my perspective was caused because I was raised that way.

Hehe, yea, I sure have done a lot of deleting of tracks on my part too. This particular one, however, even though I am the owner of the group and could have deleted it, I didn't.

Of course I have other comments that I can't touch, but that are floating embarrassingly "out there". My article on "Vegetarian Lions of the Millennium" being one of them.

I really do appreciate discussion groups - this one certainly included. They can be a real help for a Christian, in challenging and/or firming down beliefs. Many threads are very much worth following. But it is always necessary to distinguish heated discussions from enlightening ones; ignoring the first, cultivating the second.
