IMO we need some new faces.

Cheney is too much of a lightening rod.

But that being said, I would probably vote for him if he were the Republican choice.

I ain't about to vote for "the one" and a third party seems like such a long short and would most probably split the Republican/Conservative vote enought to give "the one" a second term - which would be the death knell for life in America as we know it. Of course we may have already passed that point anyway.

NO! First off, there's no way he'll get elected and if he does I don't know what I'll do. God help us if Cheney gets a first (third?) term.

First I'm a "libbie" even though I'm a moderate, then you imply that I hate America, and a few days ago you called me a parrot. If I'm a "libbie" then I guess you're a "connie."

He may have some support, but I don't think he'd run. (Thank goodness)

If he's the Republican nominee, I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.

But he won't run. Not with his heart problems.

I would not enjoy seeing him drop dead of a heart attack in the middle of the campaign.

Edited to say Tom and I had the same thought at the same time. And also to add, don't think I'd vote for him in the primaries. We need someone new.

    ,

If he were the Republican nominee, there is no way I would vote for him, as I have cast my last vote for that party. However, I will say this for him, he does have some truly conservative qualities, and in another time and place, may have been successful. That is why I have always doubted the rumors that Cheney truly ran the Bush administration, as liberal as it was in areas. For example, I doubt very seriously Cheney had anything to do with shoving that 800 billion dollar stimulus bill down our throats in Sept 08.

He has a long record of service to this country, but as everyone above has said, his health prevents such a grueling campaign.

No, I would not vote for Mr. Cheney as I will no longer vote for a neo-con or a neo-lib or those who are fellow travelers with such globalists.

Cheney running would ensure Obama's second term.

Then Obama ought to be working behind the scenes to ensure Cheney's nomination, because he certainly is not going to get a second term on his record.

What Republican do you believe could defeat Obama in 2012?

Hard question. We are way off from 2012 and so much can happen. At this point I believe it is easier to say who would loose to him rather than who would win. It should be an interesting few years to see how everything develops.

In 1972 almost anyone could have beaten Nixon ... but the Democrats looked hard and found the one person who could not beat him. If the Republicans go too far to the right that could happen to them in 2012. The majority of Americans are near the center. Any candidate who is too far right or left cannot win unless there are extraordinary events occurring.

Dick Cheney running for president is about as wise as Sarah Palin. If the Republican party gets anyone with half a pulse politically I'd be surprised at this point.

While President Obama has hit a dry streak with the media love, he is just too strong right now and the Republicans are too defeated to make a stand.

This is a great opportunity for a new party to emerge imho. Frankly, we need a third party to balance the business as usual attitudes in Washington.

And Obama is not too far left?

I think Huckabee and Romney have good chances against Obama in the next election. I wouldn't expect them to win at this point, but I think they will put up good campaigns and be major players in 2016 if the Republican party can turn things around. I wouldn't expect Cheney or Palin to be able to mount anything substantial if they wanted to run.
