I'm glad a pastor/scholar of Dr. MacArthur's stature is taking these people on. The prosperity "gospel" is a pox on evangelicalism and lies about the character of God.

Amen... sometimes don't agree with him, but few can strike at false teaching like him.

Too bad these modern-day hucksters are followed by sheeple.

I mean, in OT times, if a prophesy didn't come true, the prophet paid for it with his life. Today, these charlatans "prophesy" all kinds of fanciful garbage that never happens.

The worst thing I ever saw was _enny _inn talking about a revelation he supposedly received whereby he was taken up into heaven and he says he saw our Lord crying in heaven. There will be no tears in heaven.

And I think _ral _oberts said that God told him that if they built the _ral _oberts Medical Center, that He would give the doctors there the cure for cancer.

Someone help me out, here: how do normal, rational folks fall for this prosperity garbage? Is it greed? Really. Somebody help me out with this one.

Not too long ago I heard a short sound bite from John Piper on the same subject. These men and women who parade this false gospel must have no shame for what they do. As a Christian I couldn't imagine standing in front of millions knowingly promoting a lie for material gain, either that or they are truly deceived by Satan.

I wish I knew why God allows some believers to be deceived like this. And I do believe many are believers.

I have a friend who was in the Charismatic movement for 25 years. She finally came to two conclusions. The scriptures didin't support it, and it didn't work. She was traumatized and stayed away from church for 15 years. To conclude that what she held sacred for a large part of her life is false was devastating to her. Although she is now involved in church, she still bears the scars of that part of her life.

Exactly! Think of what damage they do. I mean, what if you were taught that bad things only happen to people who lack faith? Then your kid dies (God forbid!) That kind of thing destroys your faith!

I mean, the thought that poverty and sickness are brought about by lack of faith makes God a liar.

Oh, and we can all trust Benny Hinn when he says that Adam had gills and that Adam also went to the moon. :tonofbricks:

I believe that one of the failures of many pastors today is their failure to warn their congregations about these con artists. Much of the Bible, particularly the letters of Paul, warn about false teachers.

John McArthor has been preaching this sort of thing now for at least 30 years---Health/wealth fraud---name it/claim it fraud

The Health and wealth "boys and girls" are who Jude describes as "clouds without water"

You are correct, blackbird. I disagree with MacArthur, Jr. on much of his teaching but I agree here. I have a book by him The Charismatics that was put out in 1978 and I got it right about that time. He did a good job on the book I have and I've heard him at other times on the same subject and each time he did a good job of teaching. He has been a blessing to many on this teaching.

It is good and right to openly rebuke and condemn the ministry and teaching of these imposters and others. As one who had been taken up with the Charismatic and Prophetic movements, it was scrutiny and rebukes that I heard for others like this that God used to help deliver me.

That and when Rick Joyner publically said he saw with his eyes God the Father...lol
