I just thought this would be an interesting thread. I wear a suit and tie every Sunday. After Sunday school, I go to the choir room, hang up my jacket and put on my beautiful, long, flowing choir robe and then head in to the rehearsal room for our warm-up and then in to the choir loft for the service.

    One leg at a time!

We are in a farm community where life is casual, so I dress accordingly. Only wear coat and tie on special occasions, weddings, or funerals.

Usually a business suit, alhough I will occasionally wear a sportcoat and tie. The coat and tie are mandatory for me.

My clothes are pretty much always the same, whether I'm at the grocery store or church, because I dress the same everywhere. I don't dress "casual" in the sense of wearing jeans (I don't own a pair of jeans) and I hardly ever wear pants (except around my apt.) because I don't think I look good in pants. I am never dressed "sporty" anywhere and don't own sweats or tennis shoes.

So I'm usually wearing a simple top and a long skirt, which might be plain or possibly have flowers on it. My shoes are flats - don't wear heels. I'm tall and have a bad back. I always wear earrings, rings, and usually a bracelet (costume jewelry).

For church, I might put on something "special" I don't wear as often and at Christmas, I might wear something a bit more sparkly, but not always.

This is probably more info than anyone wants!

We ask our staff to dress appropriately and professionally.

For me that means a pair of slacks or khakis, casual shoes (not sneakers), and a button down shirt or polo. Occassionally I will wear a sport jacket or casual blazer on Sundays.

The appearance on stage for the teacher for the day is usually about the same.

For our student guys that means something completely different...;)

That's probably a good diea since I have yet to go to a church that allows nudity.

I have always preferred a suit and tie on Sunday AM and PM but casual on Wednesday PM. As the song leader I've always thought I should look presentable without looking flashy. I've been criticized for that preference on Sunday by people who say, "God doesn't care how you look." If not then why did He tell the priests in the Bible how to dress? Apparently it does matter to Him.

That 's not saying that God is offended by His creation, the human body, but that there are appropriate as well as inappropriate ways of doing all things. Maybe I'm just being too legalistic.

I wear a suit and tie to the early traditional service. Then during Bible study , I change to much more relaxed clothes for the less traditional service. Unless there is a weddng or a funeral I wear a sports shirt and slacks. For really formal times, I put on socks!

Clean jeans, button-down shirt, sport coat or sweater, black combat boots nicely polished...do have the tie & white shirt for the wedding/funeral occasions...sometimes a S&W Model 60 under the coat or sweater...

I was at a Reformed Baptist church for some years~pastor said one Sunday that denim was not proper material to worship in~~kid you not, looked down at my Wranglers, looked over at the cowboy-dressed fella down the row, and just sorta chuckled to myself...he sorta took himself a little too seriously.

I don't wear suit and tie to church. Generally I wear a golf shirt and dress pants. Ties are a burden to me. I have to wear them Monday thru Friday. I don't have to wear ties on Sunday, so I don't.

Me. in a suit? LOL! Since I don't own one it would tough to do anyway, but I'm not a suit and tie kind of guy. When I get to preach I do it in business casual.

For church I will wear slacks or jeans, and a polo or button down shirt. I wear tennis shoes most of the time, mainly because the one pair of dress shoes I have happen to have a blown out heal and make walking a real adventure. For me, applying what money I have toward my bills is more important than fancy clothes. When God blesses me with a job that pays more than my bills, I will upgrade my wardrobe... but i seriously doubt that will include a suit.

Priestly garments were a shadow of things to come. That's why the difference. Nowhere does the NT mandate a standard garb for pastors or leaders. The NT key word is 'modesty'.

30 years ago a suit and tie, white shirt, perhaps a vest, and the wingtips were obligatory in almost all situations of life and church people dress accordingly. Today a pair of dockers and a collared shirt are de rigueur in the business world and has become the standard in many churches also.

I don't dress for church. I dress for me. It is my dignity and respect for the service that concerns me. It never mattered to me how others dressed. It was more important that they were there.

Oh yes, I happen to wear a full suit, polished shoes, clean socks and a clergy collar. I vowed never to wear a tie or shave once I was discharged from the army in 1958.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Dress pants and a button down shirt, I hate wearing ties. I had to for years in my job and I never could get used to them.

I'm one who thinks we should dress the best we can to come worship our Lord. That doesn't mean to me a suit and tie, for I think dress pants and a nice shirt is better for me. I really don't understand those who come in with shorts and flip flops, or a old T-shirt and tattered jeans.

I dress for God.Not that there are specific articles of clothing that are mandated in scripture but I wear my best because it honors God.

I liked it when you said you may wear something "special" on Sunday because, we should consider Sunday church service special!

I think sometimes we take church for granted. We need to realize that we are in the presence (or at least as close as we can get) of the Lord and show proper respect in accordance with our culture.

Myself, I always wear a Coat and tie ( to me a suit and sports jacket is the same thing)
