Which doctrine do you believe? No comment necessary, but by all means feel free to.... :)

Synergism: the doctrine that the human will cooperates with the Holy Ghost in the work of regeneration.

Monergism: the doctrine that the Holy Ghost acts independently of the human will in the work of regeneration.

    I'm monergistic. :)

I believe what Scripture teaches and I praise God for that blessing. That obviously means that I am monergistic though I usually use either the term Sovereignty of God in Salvation or the Doctrines of Grace.

    Monergist here.

But if I put that question to my fellow church members, 90% or more would respond with a blank stare. They would answer, "I don't know nothin' 'bout no monergist. What chu talkin' about?"

Jonah was sinking to his death in the sea and cried "Salvation is of the Lord".

It is. Nothing of, by or about Bob. Bob was in far worse shape and could no nothing (much less "cooperate" with God - what a joke for my wicked soul) for salvation. If I do any seeking or believing or repenting it is because of what God has already done 100% for me and I am just taking the first steps after regeneration.

Monergist, giving God all glory for ANY grace.

At this time in my life I voted Synergism, I believe God works on us before we are born again leading us to Christ, when we actually believe what we are being taught by God we are regenerated and saved by our faith ( saved and regenerated being together and instantaneous ) and angels rejoice.

If I see otherwise in the future I may change my stance.

I voted Monergist, but wonder if the synergist view and monergist view are necessarily mutually exclusive.

Kinda like Monergistic Syngergism, or Synergestic Monergism? I see clearly now.

    I vote Monersynergist, LOL

I have to side with scripture that salvation is of the Lord. I cannot in anyway see how someone can base their salvation on what they have done. As a matter of fact, there is a great Christian website called "Monergism", I highly recommend it. It has some very good articles and MP3 files.

Sola, thanks for sharing that link. I too recommend it. I've read several good articles from there in the past (Michael L. Gowens writings for one).

I realize that not hardly a fraction of the BB has participated in this poll but I must admit that I'm very surprised at these results. I expected it to be the opposite of what it is.

Is 20-4 a fair indicator of the overall makeup of BB members?

Are you saying the vote is 20 for synergist and 4 for monergist?

You should have included "other" or "neither" so people who don't want to be categorized or don't like these terms could vote and see the results. I have no idea what they are.

No, its only because you guys were causally determined to vote while the rest of us used our free will to resist your appeal.

It is curious however...I wonder if the poll used different wording if it might get different results? Or maybe the Calvinists know you and see that you are the one who started the thread and are more likely to stop in and cast a vote? Most non-Calvinists these days are not up on all the terminology and arguments for and against the differing views so they may be more likely to see words like monergism and syngergism and just move on. Haven't been around long enough to know... just guessing.

    So, did you vote?

I don't know how the two sides could be more concisely represented than this was. Either man cooperates with God or God does it all. It's just that simple.

No, the poll results are 20 Monergists to 4 Synergists.

Marcia, do you believe that the human will cooperates with the Spirit in the new birth or do you believe the Spirit works independently of the human will in the new birth?

It really cannot be presented any simpler than that.
