    Other than monthly bills, which are paid instantly, I have no debt. I maintain the ways of poorer days, if we don't have the cash, we don't buy.

    I missed the one point about being indebted to Jesus my Lord and Saviour. Indeed, I am wholly indebted to Him for all that I have and will have in times to come.

    No really, I should have read it all better, I just thought 'here we go' shame we cannot choose 2 as I would go for the last one as well.

    Only time I remember making car payments . . . was driving an old 350 Chev P/U 1000 miles a day. I read that the 3 cylinder Chev Metro got over 40 MPG and bought one the next day. The payments and new gas bill were less than the old gas bill. That car averaged 48 MPG for 100,000 miles and then I stopped counting.

    I have zero debt.

    I pay cash for everything.

    If I cant afford something, I save up until I can.

    Due to tax laws and other good reasons, buying a house with a mortgage is reasonable. One gots to live someplace. But if a person can't save at least 20% for a down payment he can't afford to buy a house and he doesn't make enough to claim the deductions.

    True - one advantage of buying is that eventually the mortgage is paid off - renters are never paid in full - they just keep on paying rent.

    Just a mortgage, but I am working hard to pay it down ASAP (paying double my required payment every two weeks, paying 10% of the principal annually). Should have that sucker behind me in 7-8 years, Lord willing.
