Was it already ten years ago that the onset of Y2K was upsetting a lot of people?

    Wow. Time flies.

I still remember that. Good cheers to all as we enter the 202nd decade since the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Yep. I remember all those stories worrying if our computers were going to shut down, thus putting out lights all over the world, causing giant traffic jams when the signals go out.

The experts were urging us to pay good money to get a computer whiz to modify our computers or face the end of the world, unmitigated disaster.

Oh, wait, that was global cooling, and that was back in the 1970s.

Oh, wait, that was the overpopulation bomb back in the 1960s.

Oh, wait, that was the threat of nuclear obliteration back in 1950s.

What was funny to me was that I sat at home watching every hour in the evening some place in the world ringing in the new year, and nothing happening except people were ringing in the new year.

Well, now according to someone, we have the world ending in 2012. That wouldn't hurt my feelings any.

Jas 4:14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.

A verse in a mind for a while.

I couldn't stop reading that verse the other day! Funny that you posted it.

Well, of course nothing happened. Nothing happened because computer systems were updated to ensure nothing happened. I worked at a hospital at the time and we spent many, many hours building a test lab and testing every single piece of software and hardware we had. Even at that, a couple of print servers went offline when the year changed because they'd been missed with an upgrade.

Let's not pretend that Y2k wasn't a real problem just because nothing failed. It may have been overblown, but there's no question that there was a risk. IT engineers don't deserve your ridicule just because we were successful in upgrading systems and ensuring that nothing happened.

I never really appreciated IT techs until my son became one. Now I have a better understanding of what goes on behind the computer screen. It is one of thankless jobs I'm afraid, but a much needed one.

    Don't stop there.
No doubt you remember the Axis threat of the 40s
And the Depression of the 30s
And the excesses of the 20s
And the Wilson doctrine of the teens.
    etc
    etc
    etc

10 years ago I was still the mom of just 2 children and putting my hope in the Lord that He would bless us with another baby.

I now have that blessed other baby and a bonus! :)

Psalms says we live three score and ten or if by strength four score. It really does seem to pass faster than when I was younger. There were lots of countdowns when younger, such as how many days until school is out, how long till I get my license, how long until I get out of the military. Looking back it all seems kind of silly, since that was the most carefree time of life.

My Dad kept telling me not to wish my life away, which at the time, I did not understand.

Doesn't it seem to go faster? I mean, I just learned to write 2009 in my checkbook! It can't be a full year later!
