At this point Curtis I believe Jesus Christ would have a difficult time meeting the criteria you lay out for ministry.

Pastor Mark is a fine man, an excellent pastor, and profound expositor of God's Word. Shame on anyone who says differently.

OK - you said in the other thread that Mark Driscoll is a serious heretic. I've been listening to his messages here and there over the last year and I agree with much of what he says.

So what does he say that's heresy?

I don't know if the guy is a heretic, but reading the quotes from the second link make me understand that he is seriously confused. Somehow I don't think that's the way Christians ought to be acting and speaking.

he was very immature at the outset of his ministry. he has grown quite a bit. The emerging church is problematic but he does hold to some very conservative theology.

Let's instead nitpick some of Brother Curtis' words:

"I threw a guy and his Oriental wife OUT of my home"

"And I judge you to be unworthy of my time"

    "Bush my hero"

"scripture is harder on greed than on sexual sin"

"Let's also not forget caring democrats like John Edwards."

"Christ's teachings on hell were terrorist threats"

"the Bible may be the liar"

"give me liberty or give me death" is SOOOOO cliche."

    "MSNBC is an unbiased network"

Just a few nuggest. Of course they were all taken out of context but that doesn't matter. What matters is that he said them. You can search on them with his name and find them easily. He absolutely said each of the above things.

Understand that many of the quotes are from his "confessions" book. Taken out of context anything can look bad but let's see them in context and we see a different man. I've listened to his messages for a while now and I can assure you that most of what is implied from those quotes is not the truth.

I never mentioned the SBC as a movement. But I do believe it's fine to expose Driscoll's false teachings.

I think the quotes from the 2nd link are when Driscoll was into the emerging church movement. He has since left it and denounces it. I think he has also changed in some other respects in recent years (for the better).

Actually he has parted company with Brian McLaren and his ilk and denounces their emergent church and much of their doctrine. He very much supports the emerging church not to confuse the two.

Which is hard not to do, because they're very much alike.

Driscoll has reaffirmed this testimony since his "reform," which was really only a surface manipulation to escape criticism.

    The man is a liar.

Actually, Driscoll is a leader in the Emergent movement, not a "profound expositor of God's word".

Curtis, if you have the time, check out Chris Rosebrough's "Fighting for the Faith" podcast. He takes on men like Driscoll and the Emergents all the time.

I'd like to see your evidence of this. As I said, I've listened to many of Driscoll's messages and I've not heard anything like this. Believe me, if I did, he'd be toast in my book but I've heard nothing but good stuff from him. I don't always agree with everything he says, but most of it I do.

I am no fan of Rick Warren. I eat all kinds of meat and spit out bones. Unlike some on this board who just eat fried chicken legs  Let them who have ears to hear, let them hear.

I know people are frustrated with some of Driscoll's statements. His writings have been good, but I've only seen a few. I've only heard one or two sermons so that's not enough to pass judgement. Again, I'm one of the three on BaptistBoard who thinks that's not enough to do so

Nope. There is hardly a complete sentence from me in your quote.

Other people have verified there are problems in Driscoll's ministry.

Does he still teach his flock how to brew beer ?
