Snowfalls are now just a thing of the past

Britain's winter ends tomorrow with further indications of a striking environmental change: snow is starting to disappear from our lives.

Sledges, snowmen, snowballs and the excitement of waking to find that the stuff has settled outside are all a rapidly diminishing part of Britain's culture, as warmer winters - which scientists are attributing to global climate change - produce not only fewer white Christmases, but fewer white Januaries and Februaries.

The first two months of 2000 were virtually free of significant snowfall in much of lowland Britain, and December brought only moderate snowfall in the South-east. It is the continuation of a trend that has been increasingly visible in the past 15 years: in the south of England, for instance, from 1970 to 1995 snow and sleet fell for an average of 3.7 days, while from 1988 to 1995 the average was 0.7 days. London's last substantial snowfall was in February 1991.

Global warming, the heating of the atmosphere by increased amounts of industrial gases, is now accepted as a reality...

According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) [CRU--This is the source of the emails from Climategate] of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become “a very rare and exciting event”.

“Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” he said

    Tell them what you think!

By whom? Certainly not by me. I realize I'm not in the UK, but where is this global warming? We are having the longest cold spell I've seen here in Florida since I've been here, and there's no end in sight. With the nights going below freezing, my water freezes every night.

I realize that is nothing compared to many other places, but I am talking about FLORIDA, the home of warm, sunny days and comfortable nights--even in the winter! Not this year.

I was told by a young man from Sweden that Stockholm has received so little snow ... rain yes ... but not snow the last few years that they have had to make snow for people to sky on the cross country trails. I am not sure about the cross country sky trails in Oslo.

I have read that side effects of global warming are larger hurricanes, larger snowfall when it does snow ... in essence larger storms.

Blame the deep southern swing of the jet stream for your cold weather in Florida.

In North Carolina this winter has been record breaking. Not with the cold temps, but in the length of time the temps have stayed so low. Most of North America is very, very cold right now. It just goes to show you that these "experts" don't know what they are talking about. The weather changes, the climate changes, things don't stay the same. I know that around here in North Carolina we usually go in phases. We have a few warm years, then a few cold years. 09/10 looks like it is going to be a cold year. This past summer was cooler than normal and this winter is hitting us hard. Not too many years ago we had a warmer than normal winter. Things change! The "global warming" folks need to wake up to that fact. Things are changning and they will continue to change. Who knows? In 25 years we could be in an ice age or a massive heat wave. They don't know, I don't know, only God knows. I am all for a cleaner environment (etc), but the idea of man-made global warming is a joke. It is almost funny to! The year they have their big conference (etc) the President of the United States has to rush home early to avoid the blizzard and the eastern U.S. has been frigid ever since. I don't know, but it almost seems like God is laughing at the global warming crowd by showing us how little man really knows.

Weather has trends. That's all there is to it. Global Warming is the new communism and the baby of liberals who want to bring the west to her knees through fear mongering about the loss of snow and coastlines. Even in the face of global warming not being true they cannot let go of it. By the way, we sure could use Al Gore's hot air in Mobile. He's certainly blown enough of it lately.
