Super Bowl party at church

From what I have heard, our youth group will have a gathering at the youth pastor's home after the Sunday evening service has finished. They usually do this, although not always at the same house, every year. Commercials and halftime are always turned off.

 

Man, the commercials are always the best part, unless the Cowboys are playing~!...

 

Since I don't follow football, this was entirely lost on me. :tongue3:

 

Me, too. I didn't even know one was coming up.

 

We used to have the Super Bowl Party after church as the pastor's home across the street. Most of the time we'd arrive in time for the second half.

We don't any more, but for no particular reason.

 

We provide a space for our small groups to come and hang out. We have a large area available and will show the game on a very large screen. We use halftime for a video presentation that is usually made available.

Mostly our older, age wise, groups only show up. Most of our younger groups prefer to go to someone's home or other places.

We make it a good situation and since we don't do Sunday night it isn't that big of a deal.

 

We don't change anything we do on Sunday nights for the Super Bowl. Or any other Bowl or sporting event. My team may make this year and if I miss some of the game I will be at Church like usual, (God willing).:applause::thumbsup:

 

AMEN! Church shouldn't accomodate the world. Too many churches have given up Sunday night services out of failure.

Only one life, twill soon be past, only what's done for CHRIST will last!

I love football, but I have given up many a game to do service to my Lord, and I will continue to do so as long as I am allowed to live!

Yes, Ann---there IS a rule concerning big screens

According to our constitution and by-laws at the church I pastor----big screen is defined as an area no less than 52"---but last year there was a big fuss between me and the deacon chair as to who was gonna hold the remote!!!

Of course, just this past business meeting nite we added an amendment concerning the latest in High Definition!!!! The amendment stated that the big screen must be equipped with HD from here on out till the Rapture!!

The only drawback with the big screen is---mercy--we payed $5,000.00 for it (used) and it just sits there until next Super Bowl party---thats the only concern Blackbird had with the whole thing!!!

No showing of the superbowl at our church here. We'll have worship service as usual. So far we've found the gospel of Christ to be the most effective way to win the lost, encourage believers, and keep people coming back to church.
Never found a ball game able to do that. . .:thumbsup:

 

Prefer Rugby myself, more of a mans sport than American football :smilewinkgrin:

 

For sure certain, it won't happen in Green Bay this year. My poor son-in-law, born in Green Bay, and ticket holder, is in tears.......

AMEN SISTER!!! Laodecian churches do things like show football games. This type of thing does not belong in church!

 

We did it at a previous church... went together, and did it in the High School gym... All our youth groups gathered, and invited more.. had over 500 teens show up.. and they all heard the Gospel at half time.. we did it until I moved here..

God blessed, some were saved.. others the seed was sown.. and we had a great time of fellowship...

God uses many things.. Don't put God in a box..

And NO we weren't "Laodecian" .. that is an insult to me.
But yes, we met people where they were, and took the Gospel to them...

Just because it is not your cup of tea.. .don't think you are a better Christian than those of us that have done this.. saw souls saved, and enjoyed ourselves while doing it...

BTW.. Church was not cancelled.. people had a choice... some went to church, others volunteered to make the party a success...

I just love people who are sooo conceited that they can't open their hearts to doing something new for God. NOT!


And while I am at it.. we also did Prom dinners for the High School proms.. .I started this when I was youth pastor there, and they are still doing it... It kept the teens from Driving long distances to take their dates to dinner before the Prom...

I am sure some of you "Holier than thou" types will flame me for this too.. but I don't care.. it was the right thing to do.. and God got the Glory.

I guess I am a Laodicean Liberal.. but I praise God Jesus isn't like these Phariseeical fundamentalists we have today!

Conceit has nothing to do with it, Tim. It's biblical. Jesus threw the money changers out of the temple, remember?

I am not holier than thou. I am doing my best to serve God and to live in His will. I see way too many churches doing things that have absolutely NOTHING to do with the Bible.

Whatever...... If I have to twist the scripture to suit MY needs, something is wrong. The scripture convicts me, I don't convict the scripture.

No. So there was no "money changing" going on.

And you must have missed the part when it was posted that the gospel was presented at halftime and some kids were saved.

Surely you dont object to people being saved do you?

I'm having a hard time understanding what your objection is.
