Wow. Just read an excerpt about John Edwards...

    This was fascinating. And honestly, it had nothing to do with Edwards' party affiliation. It's a tragic account of how a man (and his wife) became intoxicated with power, and turned his back on the truth, and those who were close to him (and her).

    Wow. I was spellbound, stunned, and disgusted. And to think...for a season, he had a realistic shot at President.

    Check it out. It's quite the long excerpt, and will take some time. But it's worth it.

    And, the story really has nothing to do with D's or R's...rather, it poignantly reminds us that corruption via power is a dangerous, seductive, addictive entity. And that it can bring "great men" to ruin.

    John Edwards really is a terrible little person. Thank God he didn't become President. What makes it even worse is that his wife is terminally ill with cancer and that he knew it when he was cheating on her. Also, he keeps saying that his mistress' baby isn't his. I'm not buying that.

    I agree, Paul. As for the baby, why deny it if it is his? He has admitted to the liasons, therefore it could be. What a scum. Sadly, his message was very appealing to me; but it turns out that the messenger was deeply flawed. I very much feel for Elizabeth Edwards.

    I agree, insofar as I feel sorry for any victim of infidelity.

    However, from the sounds of this article, Elizabeth had become drunk with power as her husband had.

    Of course, who knows? I will say this...the author went after both sides of the political spectrum, so the claims of partisanship will ring kind of hollow.

    Dunno who said it , but it's true:

    "Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely!!"

    One need only look at the general trend in politics from the term of Lincoln on; probably before, but --!

    Seems every election, and the resulting administration, brings us a little more under the power of government, rather that government being under the power of the people as dictated by the constitution.

    A greedy and apathetic public is to blame though!

    God has given us the government we DESERVE as a nation; not necessarily as individuals.

    For the record, the complete quote is, "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." The author was 19th century Englishman John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton, aka 'Lord Acton.' According to Stephen Tonsor, Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Michigan, Acton was both "the most knowledgeable foreign observer of American affairs in the nineteenth century," and deeply concerned about "the threat to freedom from centralized governmental absolutism, the tyranny of the majority, bureaucratic administration, democracy and socialism," threats which have hardly been vanquished today.

    Interesting read.

    The only real surprise was the attitude of Elizabeth. I've always thought Edwards was a phony.

    Well....there's 15 minutes of my life that I'm never going to get back! :BangHead: I know, I know, no one made me read it.

    One never knows how much of anything like this is true, but....

    ....if he really did say to his young aide "You should have come to me like a man and told me to stop the affair!" (edited), then I'm grateful that a human being with that much lack of self-discipline and a narcissitic blaming of others for his personal problems is not running my country today.

    One also has to wonder how many more just like the Edwards ARE in Congress and the White House, no matter what their party.

    Scary thought.....

    This pretty much matches my thoughts when I read the article on Sunday PM. It is scary that a man so unhinged was so close to becoming president and the mainstream press steadfastly refused to investigate this part of his life.
