Am I on trial here or something? I said I do not know of any Catholics who pray to Mary. They may ask her for help, but they do not pray to Mary as one prays to God.

If the forum members wanted to get rid of me, because I would not agree that Catholics are not Christians, then you all have succeeded.

Even my Christianity has been questioned. You have given me no reason to stay or to even want to be here.

What is the difference between asking for help from Mary and praying to Christ? It is not my place to give you a reason.

    Marcia,

I try to carefully consider things. I am not a Catholic in disguise; but why would I want to stay, when I'm being accused of not even being a Christian?

You're right, I suppose. It is not your place to give me a reason to stay.

I asked you how long you have been saved. You replied that you were baptized in a Baptist church at age seven. Do you think that made you a Christian?

I am not a "he" or a RC in disguise.

I feel like I've stepped into the Inquisition.

I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior when I was 7 years old. I have been a Christian ever since.

Do you believe baptism had anything to do with your salvation?

Great! But that was not the question.

What is the difference between asking Mary for help and praying to Christ?

If you are going to espouse strange and unorthodox doctrines then you will get questioned on them on this board. It is not isolated to you it is that way of everyone.

I was saved by the saving grace of Christ, who shed His blood for my sins. Baptism followed, in obedience to Christ, as a public profession of my faith.

I'm not espousing anything. I only said I don't know of Catholics who pray to Mary. I can only tell you of the people I know. I'm not Catholic. I'm not espousing their doctrines. What is going on here? I really don't understand.

Sigh...you said that asking Mary for help was not the same as praying to Christ. I am asking you what is the difference?

This is a copy of a post I just sent to moderators.

This one day on the forums, here, has been one of the most disturbing experiences in my Christian life. I have been accused of being a Catholic in disguise, and of not even being a Christian. I came here, stating up front, that I am a Baptist, who has been questioning things for years.

In one day, forum members have managed to tear apart any fragment of hope remaining regarding the Baptist Church. At least, now I can leave the Baptist church and feel at peace about it. You have helped me make my final decision.

I leave these forums with no ill feelings, only a profound sadness. May God bless each of you in your Christian walk. I'm not sure where to go from here, as far as finding a new church. I do know that the visible love of Christ is a definite requirement for any church I would consider.

    So, I will say goodbye.

So, you let a few people who questioned you, and disagreed with you on an internet forum, decide whether you want to stay a "Baptist" or not? Unbelievable.:wavey:

Let's address this Mary thing. First of all, there is the Hail Mary:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee
Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus
Holy Mary, mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death
    Amen

(Hey, I'm impressed - I posted that from memory! I can do it in French too!)

Then there is the Hail, Holy Queen

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O merciful, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.

How about the Morning Consecration to Mary:

My Queen, My Mother, I offer myself entirely to thee
And to show my devotion to thee,
I offer thee this day my eyes,
My ears, my mouth, my heart,
    My whole being without reserve.
Wherefore good Mother, as I am thine own, keep me, guard me as thy property and possession. Amen.

Finally there is the Salve Regina:

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
Hail my life, my sweetness and my hope
To you we cry, poor banished children of Eve
To you we send up our sighs
mourning and weeping in this vale of tears
Turn, most gracious Advocate, your eyes of mercy towards me
    and after this, our exile
show us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus Christ
    Clement, loving, sweet Virgin Mary
    Amen

So none of these are prayers but just asking for help?

Who is our helper according to Scripture?

Do the dead hear the prayers of the living?

Do the dead intercede for us with Jesus Christ?

Do the dead have the ability to hear prayers from everyone around the world - thus being omnipotent and omnipresent - characteristics only God holds?

    BaptistQuestioning -

If you are truly questioning Biblical issues, then ask about them. Don't ask about how the Baptists see the Catholic church because that's too broad an issue to address. The Catholic church as a whole is broken in regards to the Scriptures. But bring up in a post an individual issue and we all will discuss it through the study of the Scriptures. But that was not your intent in coming here. It was to test the Baptists and see how much they hate the Catholic church then accuse them of making you leave the Baptist church and go to the Catholic church. But that was a false statement. If you were Baptist, you did not know the truth because once you have tasted Christ, you will never leave Him. You certainly would not go to a church that embraces teachings that are unBiblical. I will pray for you.

I thought you were really wanting answers but it seems you had already made up your mind. Did you even read and will you consider what I wrote in response to your points? And do you realize this is a debate forum?? Did you try the fellowship forums?

If you base leaving the Baptist church and/or going towards Catholicism on the basis of what a few people on a forum say to you, I certainly fear for your future as far as learning from the Bible goes. You are basing theological decisions on a limited personal experience.
