It may be just my observation, but I am starting to believe that Obama is more DISAPPOINTED with his approach to foreign policy than he is with being the POTUS.

    Let me explain.

He was reported to be "angry" with the news about the "Under Pants Bomber." This could mean that he is growing more and more disappointed with the premise that the terrorists can be won over to his way of thinking simply by admitting that America is nothing more than an arrogant group of people who bully their earthly neighbors.

I'm quite sure Obama is growing frustrated with the fact that throughout the Muslim world effigies of him are being burnt to the chants and rants of "Death to America...Death to Obama!"

Welcome to the real world Mr. President. It is not surprising to me that your attempts to smooth over years of American mistakes and wars, with a simple apology for "our swagger," has all but exploded in your face. Your best efforts to win over our nation's most notorious enemies has been short-lived, and wacko critics like Hugo Chavez are no longer singing your praise.

Have you found it disappointing that the "nut-job from Iran" has still not booked a week in D.C. to meet with you, and become your newest best friend and ally in the Middle East? It must be even more disappointing that he hasn't booked that weekend trip to Florida to see the sights and take a trip down the Matterhorn at Disney-world.

Life in D.C. may have proved itself to be more enjoyable than you expected, because it is obvious that you have partied it up pretty good during your first 12 months in the Oval Office. However, it's still a fact-of-life that those who hate America, still hate America, and now they "hate you too!"

If you would have only listened to your predecessors, you may have learned this painful lesson long before you took that first step to run for POTUS. Knowing before hand that your liberal way of thinking was the only "true arrogance" this nation is guilty of, may have saved this country from the numerous mistakes and near disasters that you've made, in an attempt to implement the leftist, liberal teachings you were taught at Harvard.

Well, for the sake of Americans, and what remains of this wonderful nation, I can only pray that you've learned some valuable lessons, and that you are now willing to cancel the circus side-show you and Attorney General Holder have planned for New York this coming spring. Heck, maybe you'll even decide to forgo the criminal trial of "the Psycho Major from Fort Hood" and simply take him out behind the White House woodshed and and execute him for the killing of 13 innocent patriots, and a precious baby on the way. This is the only justice that a true terrorist understands, respects, and fears!

The world is much worse than you were led to believe, BUT, now we need a President who is willing to be tough on terror and defend us from these terrorists while they are still on their own soil! I can only hope that you are man enough to swallow your pride, and be that kind of President, before it's too late!?!?!?!

    Shalom, Mr. President, Shalom!:flower:

We don't do that in America. That's one of the things that makes us different from terrorists. If we're going to be a shining city on a hill, we can not and must not violate out own Constitution and laws. Not having trials and such is a road we just don't need to go down because it's wrong. One other thing, Reverend: while I was reading your post, I was watching a video from a talk show that addresses this very same thing you're talking about: http://www.youtube.com/theyoungturks#p/u/6/RV4yoGnL3uQ

BTW, isn't Paul a good name to have?

Well, the majority of the country agrees with my position. In case you have yet to notice, President Obama was elected by duly elected presidential electors. You're entitled to your opinion, but you're in the minority.

    More naivete:

    1. Just because Obama won the election is not evidence that your position is held by the majority of the country. For example:

    a. Most Voters Still Say Bailouts Were a Bad Idea

    b. 68% Favor Offshore Oil Drilling

    c. 31% Like Government Response to Airline Incident, 38% Don’t

    d. Obama's Approval Rating Dips to New Low

    2. It is not simply an opinion but historical fact that Military Tribunals are both best and constitutional. Your false assertion that only civil trials are constitutional with regards to terrorists has no factual basis. Again you simply parrot the lefts talking points.

    Paul is a GREAT Name...

I agree on the name, HOWEVER, I did not hear the talk show you sent me. I guess great names, and great minds think alike.

Though I agree with you on having standards as a nation...we are at war with a bunch of "cut-throats", and all the honor in the world will not keep them from slashing your throat once they find you, in Jacksonville, brother!

We must be willing to do as they do if we want to stop them in their tracks.

FINALLY, if America would only present that same kind of honor when it comes to protecting and preserving the life of babies still in the womb, I could agree with your comments and critiicism. Obama may have been elected by the electorate, but, he's still a "baby-killer" as long as he doesn't put an end to abortion!

    Blessings to you. Shalom :type:

"[T]he survey finds 52% of the country approves of the way the President is handling terrorism, and 57% thinks he did well with the Christmas underwear bomber."

Regardless of if you think a military commission is the proper venue for terrorist trials, the detainees already have access to United States District Courts for the purpose of challenging detention through habeas corpus petitions. (Rasul v. Bush) In Boumediene v. Bush, the Supreme Court held the Congress' attempt to suspend habeas corpus for the detainees was unconstitutional.

These terrorists are civilians; they are not part of a military. Some of them were engaging in unlawful combat against the military. In that case a military commission may be acceptable. In other cases, U.S. civilian targets were attacked in violation of Federal law, that's when United States District Courts are acceptable.

Some have argued that hostes humani generis would apply to air hijackings and such, but I don't think that's the case.

Then what are the standards we must have as a nation? And I NEVER will do as the terrorists do and I will not let my country go down to that level.

I'm pro-life, but this thread is not about abortion.

I agree, as long as we acknowledge that every president since 1973 was also a baby killer.

I also agree that the masses who supported him must be disappointed that he has not solved all the problems of the world. He too must be disappointed at the immensity of the task that he surely understimated.

I do not agree that the American president should violate the law and kill criminals on the White House lawn. We have a Constitution. If we ignore that then the terrorists really have won.

He has proven to be what many of us here said from the start while others while diverting debate with crazy notions about all sorts of wild imaginations. He is a puppet of the Chicago machine who is unqualified to serve in this high office. Nothing more and nothing less. He has proven to be neither saviour nor satan. I am sad that he was elected, but don't think the alternative was a whole lot better. He too would be disappointing and disappointed. It is rare that a politician would do what he wanted to do or what those who elected him hoped he would do. That is politics.

My perception of the handling of the 'panty bomber' incident was that the President finally began to understand what he was up against.

It's almost as if he was living in a fantacy world up to that point.

It was only then that he began to use the word, "terrorism" and sound like he really understood what it meant.
    These aren't "Man-caused Disasters", it's terrorism!

Welcome to the real world Mr. President.

Now if he'd only stop giving my money away.

So you really want to compare NYdaily times against Rasmussen? I suppose if you have to reach that will do it.

The targets are irrelevant they are part of a much larger organization. Not isolated individuals acting on their own behalf. They have declared war on Israel and the US. The far left wing looney tactics only serve to endanger this country and give terrorists what they want. The results of that and all blood shed because of it is on the hands of folks like yourself. And you might want to read up on the MCA that followed (Rasul v. Bush).

We're violating our laws by granting rights to non-citizens that we only give to citizens!

If we're going to be a "shining city on a hill," I would advise two things:

    1. Let's obey our Constitution...which does not give the same rights to non-citizen, cameljockey, weirdbeard, planebombing, child-killing terrorists as it does to citizens (even the despicable ones!)
    2. We might, at some point, want to consider protecting that city...otherwise, we'll be a burning city on a hill.

But hey, what do I know? I'm just a simpleton that thinks that this grand experiment in Liberty, Justice, and Freedom should stick with what works, and that we should abandon the idea of "we're all one happy global family," and also ditch the idea of, "Now folks, let's not jump to conclusions...just because every bomber of a plane has been a Muslim male...that doesn't mean we're at war with Radical Islam."

Whether in civil court or military court, even the most evil among us must have their day in court. If we just take people out and execute them without some type of due process, the terrorists have won. That means we have given up our values and become what they are. I am not willing to let America become that type of nation. Besides, who is to say once that slippery slope is started, who is next to be convicted without a trial? Could be you.

The only one executing anyone without a trial would be Obama with his ordering of drones to attack people from the air without warning in various countries around the world.

BTW - no one here is talking about executing anyone without a trial. The arguement is against civilian trials as opposed to military trials.

Just a little dishonesty on your part - no?

Yep............but you know it is the same old liberal mind set and argument. If it is not there way then there is no other way eg if you do not support an unconstitutional federal expansion on health care then you are against health care reform, or if you do not want terrorists to be tried in civilian court then you want them executed without due process. Since their argument cannot hold water they have to set up strawmen. Liberalology 101

It's possible to mete justice without discarding our system of laws. I agree that justice must be served...not venegance, not retaliation, but justice. But I trust our military enough to know they can make that happen. And if I recall, you are a veteran. You know what kind of men and women serve our country. The key point is this: Our laws do not extend US citizen rights to non-citizens...but that does not mean they will not receive justice, and a fair hearing.

I'm sorry, but perhaps you could point me to where I insinuated that we kill them first and ask questions later. I'm afraid you've put words in my mouth.

Look, having served our country, you know this better than I do: It's possible to be at war with an enemy without lowering yourself to the enemy's standards. (And with this bunch we're fighting...the fact that we don't chop off innocent citizens' heads with dull knives already puts us a step above these amoral cretins).

Glad to hear it. FYI, no one has suggested that we become that type of nation.

Actually, since I'm recommending following the law, I would think that my suggestions will further stabilize the system and ensure its posterity...not the other way around.

If there is a "slippery slope" here, it is offering the same rights to the alleged terrorists that American citizens get. It makes a mockery of our legal system, and it profoundly endangers the security of our great nation.
