On his TV show, John Hagee has been encouraging people to buy "I can do this Diet" a book about dieting by Dr. Don Colbert. The main focus, according to Dr Colbert is a change of life style is the main issue.

I think we would have to agree that John Hagee is not exactly the poster child of dieting. My question is: If Hagee is going to recommend this book, why does he not say that he will be following the guidelines of the book?

    Thoughts?

When I saw the title of the thread, I chuckled - wondering what Hagee had tried himself that he felt had been successful . . . ;)

I chuckled again when I read your comment about the "poster child of dieting."

Now, I will say we can have head knowledge of what is a good daily diet and not have the desire to follow it, but I sure wouldn't be recommending anything I was not willing to do myself.

My first and most important rule for dieting is.... don't take weight loss advice from someone fatter than you...

In my case, I guess I could give it a look.

We (my wife, MiL, and me) are already doing WeightWatchers, so I'll pass on Haggee's advice. ;) Besides, I've dropped 12 pounds so far (three weeks). I've only got another person and a half to go. :D

I think he needs to try it before he endorses it.

I'm actually on three different diets right now. I almost starved to death on just two!

    OK, back to the OP.

I agree that he needs to "do" the diet before endorsing it. He probably gets a kickback from the sale of the book, don't you think?

Losing weight is never easy. I have gained and lost several people in my lifetime!! But I know this: the weight I have lost by hard work, eating right, and exercise is the weight that stays off. Any fad diets or the like just don't keep it off. It takes willpower and focus.

Absolutely, this reasoning is one of my primary motivators that has kept me working out and improving my diet for the last ten months. Who is going to pay attention to someone in my upcoming field if they don't practice what they preach, and this is painfuly obvious?

I say it takes diet and exercise lifestyle changes that become a permanent par of one's life.
