I said more than a million.

Its what I believe based on the testimony of Scripture and evidences presented.

I stated the 10,000 or less.
Why? Because though we have a 'fairly' accurate date of about 6000 years there is still some room a small margin of error. Also- no, this has nothing to do any gap assumption. It is more on the dating of earth age based upon dating of generations according to scripture. Generations in scripture differed at different times and some it is a guess-timation. So, while I would not state 10,000 years is an accurate one the "Less than" is what I agree with. (more like 6 to 7,000ish)

The Bible only says that in the beginning God Created - it does not say when the beginning was. It must not be important or God would have told us. Nevertheless, I still think it is an interesting topic.

I'm with Allan on the definition here-----I could swing between 6000 and 10,000 because of the margin of error stated

    Good post, Allan

Yes. I also agree with Allan on the 6-7000 year date.

    Old here to.

Still not had a good answer about oil and coal. How come so deep? And it comes from plant life? Apparently. There is always the work around that God made it that way to fool us I guess. Then again if that is so, how can we believe anything God says if He is out to fool us?

Fossils? Data carbon dating science etc.

One day and a thousand years are the same to God.

You left out the option for 4.5 billion years. And the Age of the Universe is 13 billion years old approximately.

I was wondering why that was missing off the poll. I would assume that those who accept the theory of the earth being 4.5 billion years old would have checked the "millions" box.

BTW, I'm wondering how long it will take for accusations of not believing the Bible, or being a liberal, or questioning peoples' salvation will begin. Usually it happens somewhere about pages 3 or 4.

Fine...I'll bring it up on page 2 then Johnv. If you can't believe that God created the things they way He says He did, then you don't believe the Bible, you are a liberal, and I'd seriously wonder whether you have your faith in the proper place.

Well, according to you, if I believe my wife is the most beautiful of all women, then I don't believe the Bible. So your last post doesn't really amount to much.

A recent video from Smithsonian says that 4.5 Billion years is "about" right ... what's a few hundred million or so?!

We are about to start, I am afraid, another round of discussions on the nature of the Bible, particularly of Genesis, and they will inevitably involve the assertion that if you cannot believe it all, you cannot believe any of it.

The problem is that scientific inquiry and faith are quite different forms of approaching knowledge. Genesis is not about science, not about a description of when Creation occurred, but about why and who. The old notion of adding up the generations ignores the nature of Genesis as sermon and parable and not as reportage. As theologians might say, it is "Heisgechichte" and not "Geschichte."

And there will be the charges of liberalism again. No ... I cannot accept that. The critical reading of the Bible is not the same thing as operating out of a low Christology or a weak anthropology, which are the marks of liberal theology.

So I put down "several million" but I think the evidence is for several billion ... and that only makes my appreciation of the vastness of God even deeper.

That's all well and good, Joseph Smith, but what I really want to know is whose wife do you think is the most beautiful of all women! :wavey:

How old? God knows and He ain't telling.

I am a Young Earth guy. Why? Because God created in six days, with Adam coming on the last one. The bible then keeps a track of how old everyone was when they died, right up to the inter-testamental period. Like others said, between six and ten thousand.

As for so-called "proofs" and all... who said God had to make the earth without mountains and valleys? Who said He couldn't put oil under the ground at creation? Or fossils? Last I checked God was still God. As for carbon dating, do some research into what it says about the trees buried by Mount St. Helen... very interesting stuff.

And I think we all have a tie because my wife is the most beautiful woman in the world.
