    From your link:

"We say, as long as Jim Bob and Michelle are able to keep a roof over their family's head and modern-modest clothes on their backs, there's a far more important reproductive issue at hand."

PETA seems to be respectful enough with it.

Peta also wants the Puxatawny Phil to be replaced with a robotic groundhog since they say he's mistreated.

    They're nuts.

I have my own criticisms of the Duggers, but PETA's position on the topic is just wacko.

I don't think that it is meant as a criticism.

It seems to be more of a cultural tie in that their advertising company came up with to be humorous.

    It's no big deal.

Perhaps you're right. I might have overreacted.

I don't think PETA meant disrespect with the billboard. It looks like they are trying to make a point by refering to something most people know about. Spaying and neutering is very important and all responsible pet owners should do it (unless they are a responsible breeder). Too many dogs/cats are being killed in this country everyday simply because people don't take responsibility for thier animals. If people took responsibility for their pets then PETA's billboard would not be necessary. This is one of my soap boxes, so I will stop before I get started. It just makes me sick how little responsibility so many people take when it comes to their dogs/cats. If you purchase/adopt a pet, take care of it. If you can't/won't do that, don't purchase/adopt.

O yea, many of the people at PETA have gone off the deep end. They have taken a legitimate issue to ridiculous extremes.

They might as well, since the groundhog doesn't actually do anything anymore. they just grab and pull him out of the borrow (probably why PETA is complaining about it in the first place), and then the people determine whether he "saw" his shadow or not. What's the use of that?

It's 'tradition'- kind of like wearing a suit and tie to church, and about as meaningless.

    I know.
Though for that, just to maintain the nominal tradition, they might as well use a robot!

Indeed. But then again, what's more nuts than holding making a pilgrimage to see a groundhog held up for all the world to see? But allegedly, he has some good statistical accuracy.
