President Obama’s friends call him the smartest man ever to occupy the White House (a dubious claim in light of the fact that John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John Quincy Adams, Abraham Lincoln and Woodrow Wilson all had better intellectual credentials or were far superior writers, or both).

According to his supporters, his command of the English language is supposedly unparalleled (when using a teleprompter, presumably).

There’s only one problem: Obama is addicted to utilizing language that he has carefully tailored or perverted to obfuscate the truth. In other words, he uses double talk on a routine basis.

In order to understand what Obama truly tells us when he speaks to us, it is necessary to grab our Little Orphan Annie Decoder Ring and decipher precisely what he means when he uses his pet phrases. This, then, is a list of his favorite linguistic flourishes—and just what he means when he uses them:

    A quote I once read/heard;
"He said absolutely nothing, but he said it most eloquently.":tongue3:

    Fits the (0) to a "T".

Dude has King Zero nailed. My wife, her mom, and I all got a great laugh out of the article, but the truthfulness and frankness of it left us all pretty somber in the end.

Yet another pointless post. The President did not use a prompter, as I stated. Do you have a point, or did mommy let you on her computer to play again?

It is amusing that Obama not using a teleprompter is a newsworthy event.

Who besides the noisy right says it is? All presidents have used them for decades. At least Obama can read from one, unlike a certain predecessor affectionately known as Dubya. That poor man couldn't speak with or without one.

Google: Obama GOP house meeting teleprompter

Look at the many many articles written by Obama supporters that make a point of stating that Obama did not use a teleprompter.

No president has relied upon the teleprompter anywhere near as much as Obama. Not even in the same ballpark.

I wonder is Obama even knows what he is going to say before he reads it on his prompter.

Any credible evidence of this? And even if so, why is it a bad thing to use a tool used almost universally by public speakers, politicians, and tv news anchors? If this is all you have to criticize him for, he must be doing a pretty doggone good job!

Where did you ever get the idea that this is all I have to criticize Obama for???:laugh:

Seriously - what planet have you been living on for the past year not to know what Obama's shortcomings are?:laugh:

Yes, all the news reports and commentary about Obama and his teleprompter are due to him not relying upon it any more than anyother President.

Well, there's this. But you will probably settle for nothing less than a double blind study with statistical analysis and a full bibliography.

“It’s just something presidents haven’t done,” said Martha Joynt Kumar, a presidential historian who has held court in the White House since December 1975. “It’s jarring to the eye. In a way, it stands in the middle between the audience and the president because his eye is on the teleprompter.”

"Obama has relied on a teleprompter through even the shortest announcements and when repeating the same lines on his economic stimulus plan that he's been saying for months — whereas past presidents have mostly worked off of notes on the podium except during major speeches, such as the State of the Union."

    Good post, Rev!

imo, the 'o' uses the telepromter so he doesn't err from the misperceptions his handlers want delivered to us.

Obama is the smartest president in THIS century. Billy Jeff Clinton might be the smartest in the last 2 centuries.
