Well, Eph. 4 does mention the local church leaders are there to build up the saints :applause:

Have always felt a Bible school without mentoring/discipleship is just not doing the whole job. On the other hand I wonder how many of their 1400 churches are pastored by none Bible school/college/seminary men. Might tell if their rubber meets the road.

I feel there is nothing wrong with a denomination sending men to college to get grounded in the word so they can spot counterfeit's like T.D. Jakes. Maybe this is why they don't send their men to college for they might come back with correct doctrines and shine their light upon all their false teachings. :type:

There's no way to put it delicately. They're wrong to do so.

    Couldn't agree with you more.

Knowledge is the gathering of information. Wisdom is the ability to use that knowledge for the glory of God.

Both are necessary and both really are two sides of the same coin. We're currently training three young men for ministry and several people for missionary service. They're all attending Bible college and are also under the supervision of established pastors and elders.

So Christian Liberty applies to everything you believe in, but not what you disagree with? You're the biggest advocate of Christian Liberty on this board, yet you deny the liberty to them?

On the contrary. Choosing to attend a Christian college or not, or a church choosing to make Christian college attendence a qualifier or disqualifier, is a matter of Christian liberty. To take a position of "Bible Colleges are morally wrong" as a doctrine is not a matter of Christian Liberty.

After reading the wiki article I think this statement is a bit stronger than maybe it should be.

It seems the Potter's House uses an apprentice model for raising up and training ministers.

There are some strong reasons to adovcate for this kind of a model. Right now we just send preacher boys off to seminary and when we get them back they end up being vapid, detatched, or unable to engage with real people.

We need a hybrid, accreditted model. I had one and it is exactly why I am still in ministry today.

Interestingly, Bible colleges emerged as an institutional system of fundamentalists to help train adults (not college aged adults mind you) in deeper biblical truths. These churches found that they couldn't send their adults to local seminaries for equipping because of the rampant denial of biblical standards and doctrines. They developed the Bible college system in order to keep their people affirming biblical doctrines while receiving equipping for life.

To a greater or lesser extent both systems can create a bomb-sheltering effect and some theological inbreeding. I'm all for exposure to different thoughts and opinions. We need to be broadly read about issues. Anytime to cluster around a central teacher you end up having some issues that show up.

Well I stand by my statement that The Potters House is an apostate church. It teaches a very weak Gospel built on success and personal acheivement as signs of God's blessing. That's a bigger issue than the Bible college thing.

So a fellowship does not have liberty to believe the way they do? An individual christian is not forced to associate with a particular fellowship.

That's a good question. Of course they do. But there's a difference between saying "we believe" and "this is the standard for everyone". They're not just saying the former, they're saying the latter, at the doctrinal level. It's the same type of argument we see with KJVO's.

Elder Hassell's History of the Church of God from the Creation to A.D. 1885; Including Especially the History of the Kehukee Primitive Baptist Association:

"But where stand the Missionar[y Baptist]s on this subject since their departure from the faith? Is it not self-evident that they are head and ears involved in ministerial education by means of religious schools; and from their mills are grinding out young preachers yearly by scores, who are to spread over the land, like the locusts of Egypt, in search of a support from the people without any manual labor on their part? Such was not the case in the olden time."
