What type of Bible do you read?

I have the ESV personal size reference. Single column, references in the middle, such a pleasure to read.

 

1. I read an English bible. (duh!)

2. I usually read the bible on my computer or phone.

 

Paperback. I read through the Bible every year in a different version and make notes as I do.

 

I read a reference Bible most of the time. I like having the cross references and alternate readings in the center column if I want them, along with the study helps and maps in the back. My favorite Bible right now is a Cambridge Cameo bound in deerskin, it has replaced my goatskin R. L. Allan reference Bible.

I also tend to keep a study Bible at hand for those (all too often) times when I am not "getting it" or need someone elses take on what a verse is saying.

 

Mostly I read a study bible. I don't always use/read the notes, thoguh. I tend to use a specific bible for everything, though; I will cycle through several while studying a passage, but otherwise I will use a single copy for everything else.

 

Its hard to say as I don't use one Bible all the time. I guess I will just put them in order of most used to least used.

NASB- Word Study Bible

ESV- Lastest ESV Study Bible, I forked out for the leather. This book is HUGE

Holman CSB - Slimline leather, no notes just a standard reference edition

NET Bible- Full print , first edition

NKJV - Chronological Archeological study Bible

NLTse - Transformation Study Bible, Wiersbe's commentary.

NIV - Same word study notes as the NASB.

KJV - regular old reference Bible.

 

The one on my iPhone. Seriously. I'd be lost without it.

 

I have several bibles. I have a KJB plain, and NKJB(referrence), NIV(study), New American Bible(study, Oxford Bible(study). I plan on getting an NSRV. I use all at all times.

 

Yes, it's really funny on Sundays when the pastor says "if you open your bibles to...." and about a dozen folks whip out their iPhones.

 

Yeah I study at home using my computer almost exclusively.

You might say I have to dust off my Bible each Sunday before bringing it in.

My "Sunday bible" is a brand new, large print ESV reference bible.

I just purchased a ESV Study Bible for a new-believer friend.
I looked though it, looks good but ... -----> WoW it's heavy!

Speaking of which, I have thought about getting a Nook and downloading a Bible to it for use as my church Bible. I kind of like the idea of having other Bible references on it as well and having them all at my fingertips during the pastor's sermon.

 

Just get a netbook and put e-Sword on it.

 

I read several Bibles but always like Bibles with cross-references the best. I like to check those out when I read. The one exception would be the Thompson-Chain, which I also like.

I vary - sometimes preferring to read a study Bible and sometimes not; it depends on the purpose.

I noticed a lot of people listed the versions they read, which was not the OP question. I managed not to do that. :smilewinkgrin:

Nave's topical bible.
Thompson Chain Reference
The Treasury of David by Spurgeon.
But my favority bible is a 1901 American Standard Bible translated from the original tongues. But i have to be gently with it, it is falling apart.

 

I read a lot from the Reader's Digest copy of the RSV. It has no verses and is like reading a novel. For personal devotions I read the King James Version only. I like old English. I also read the Phillips New Testament in modern English. Notice, I did say "read". Study is another matter.

It depends on where I am.

If I am at the computer using E-Sword, I'm likely to be reading from the ESV.

If I'm plopped up in the recliner, usually the NIV. (because I have several editions of this translation scattered throughout the house)

My "church" Bible is KJV right now, because that is what our last preacher used most often and the cover of my fav NIV is worn out and I haven't bothered to do anything about it. (I think our interim preacher actually uses the NAS, but I don't have a stand alone of that, because its not one of my favs.)
