Hi I have about 100 credit hours and am looking for a good university to finish my degree in online... I was hoping for something in the religion department, (its currently Ministry and Leadership) but I would really like to focus either on theology or missions.

I have a list of a ton, but I figured someone on here would be more up to date as far as a good credibility in their ministry department.

I am looking for an online college, preferably SBC

    thanks

Your best option would probably be Liberty University. They offer a Bachelor of Science in Religion that can be completed online (CLICK HERE FOR INFO).

I have three degrees (undergrad and two graduate) with Liberty, all in Bible / Ministry, all through the online program and recommend them highly. Solid in every way from admissions through professors.

I am working on the D.Min. with Temple Baptist Seminary and my experience thus far is very good. They offer degrees that are available online at all levels. They are smaller, so communication is easier in some ways, though Liberty is so big that they have everything down to a science with regard to all of your course delivery, administration, etc.

At the undergraduate level, go with Liberty, would be my suggestion. Regional Accreditation which can give you better access to various graduate programs.

Thanks guys, well here is what I am leaning towards..

I am looking at Baptist Bible College & Seminary, PA

They offer an accelerated learning ministry program. If you are unfamiliar, you basically take 30 graduate course hours once you hit the 90hr point and they count double so I will be getting a Masters and Bachelors at the same time.

My biggest concern is that my hours transfer. I will have 101-104 credit hours at a Baptist college here in Missouri. Many of these hours are electives, but 24 of them are in a "Ministry and Leadership" program at my current school.

The thing that kind of makes me weary of Liberty University is that it was founded by Jerry Falwell. I really don't know who this guy was, but for some reason I think I have heard not so good things. I may be wrong...

If you don't want to lose that many hours, take a look at the online general studies program at Indiana University. They take a huge number of hours (or used to). You could finish up there and then you could look for that masters program at a religious college.

Falwell was a conservative, Bible believing, Christian. The popular media, and the liberal left, generally did not like him for that reason. Don't count Liberty U. out because of your questions about Falwell. The university is much bigger than Falwell. It is regionally accredited and well respected. I was hired as a community college lecturer with my degree from Liberty University. I went on to earn a MA in History from a state university and now I teach history, humanities, and religion. The last two subjects are based totally on my degree from Liberty. When I was working on my MA in History, the state university transfered two of my graduate level church history classes from Liberty into my MA History program. I did not think they would, but they did. That cut my program by six hours. So you see, Liberty University is widely accepted and that is because of it's SACS accreditation. The fact that Liberty University was founded by Falwell has no bearing on how degrees from the school are accepted. Of course you might run into some rabid anti-Falwell person who would not hire you because you have a degree from Liberty. But the majority of people are not that lame.

If you are concerned about your hours, you need to contact the schools you are interested in and find out what their policies are. Make sure you ask the right questions and that you get any answer in writing.

Man, some of ya'll must be YOUNG not to remember who Jerry Falwell was (is?, I'm thinking he is still alive).

He founded the Moral Majority back in the '80s which was the forerunner of today's conservative religious political movements (sorta like the American Family Association). And he got in over his head some. And made a few mistakes. (we all do)

Nothing wrong with Falwell in the long run or Liberty University. And if you run into a "rabid anti-Falwell" guy, well, you wouldn't want to work for him anyway.

Along with the political I think his getting involved in trying to save some of the Jim Bakker assets was a detriment in how people perceived him and as with any story goes the lingering true/false trail of rumor.

Jerry Falwell passed away on May 15, 2007 of a massive heart attack on the campus of Liberty University (where he is buried).

    Yeah you're not hearing right.

(A cavaet: I'm a LU alum) One of the peculiar things about Liberty is that while it existed in the ministry of Dr Falwell it took on a very different character. It is a very good and not legalistic school.

If you're looking for a good online program to complete, you can't go wrong with LU.

Ok, Well Liberty is still an option I guess. I am waiting to hear back from Baptist Bible College to see what credits they are going to accept or reject.

==I've never understood fancy caskets and graves. Seems like a real big waste of money to me. Who cares what their body is buried in? I don't. Put my corpse in a KFC box, drop it in a hole, and cover it up. I'll have no use for it until the rapture and then Christ will make it new. It seems we just spend way too much money honoring the dead.

My father always spoke of being cremated, stuck in a box so we could take a post hole digger out and plant him  It didn't come to pass quite that way but always thought it made a lot of sense and that was back when funerals weren't so wayyyyy spendy.
