Boo! The Congress and the President continue this monstrosity. :(

Neolibs are no better than neocons on this issue.

This is bad, unconstitutional law under Bush, and remains so under Obama.

Right here. The so-called Patriot Act should be allowed to expire. President Obama and the Congress are wrong on this issue.

So why is he keeping that which he voted against as a Senator and campaigned against?

Because as President, he is beginning to understand the kind of enemies that we really have.

While I also think part of it is that he is privy to information that we are not, it still doesn't justify spying on American citizens without due process.

I hope the draconian, unconstitutional parts of the law have been removed. I'll have to do some research on this. If they have not been removed then the bill should not have been passed and Obama should not sign it into law.

Have you thought that maybe they want to review what was passed so they can make an informed comment? Of course if they disagree with you they are whiners .... even when they are right.

Also I believe the politicians, in both parties, have enough on their plates that they just did not want another huge fight going on and this was the easy way out ... put a decision off for one more year.

Maybe almost 8-9 years of the opportunity to overthrow the "draconian, unconstitutional parts" have shown that you are wrong. Apparently the courts don't see it as unconstitutional.

The President doesn't see it that way. The Democratic controlled House doesn't see it that way. The courts have not seen it that way. The whiners are still wrong.

Perhaps that's because they are all the same. Dems and Reps are just two sides on the same coin.

Or they all may be looking toward the next election and do not want to stir up another hornet's nest .... or they have enough fights going on already and want to avoid another. Hard to tell.

Parts of the Bill have been declared unconstitutional. You can easily find information on these with a bit of searching on the Internet.

Just three examples. You can find more if you want to check on this topic.

So the democratic congress passed it anyway? Obviously, the parts of the bill that was passed are constitutional.

And since when has the President shied away from a fight or taken on more issues? They have fought a multi-front battle since taking office.

You can do the homework. I have enough of my own.

Sorry. The Supreme Court rules on matters of constitutionality, not an individual politically appointed federal judge.

    Tom Bryant's statement stands unrefuted.

I wouldn't buy into that completely.

In some ways you may be correct. In others they are miles apart.

I agree. One wants to spend money and rapidly expand the reach of the federal government and fund it by raising taxes.

The other wants to spend money and gradually expand the reach of the federal government and fund it by raising taxes.

Not necessarily true. The ruling stands until a higher court either turns the decision over or upholds it. So, until a higher court rule differently those portions ruled unconstitutional are unconstitutional. If a higher court refuses to hear the case the lower courts ruling stands. In this case it will stand as unconstitutional.
