Using your church

The building we meet in was an active Catholic Church when we began as a mission. We rented time from them. While they had mass upstairs we had Sunday School down stairs. Then while we had worship upstairs they had CCD downstairs. It worked very well for all. When they moved to their new building they sold us the building as a give away price for our area.

 

We have allowed other denominations and non-denoms to use the bldg, but only if they are baptistic in doctrine.

 

One of the churches I attend meets in a facility that is rented out for whatever....and I literally mean whatever. Our church rents it as well...(We have been in the building since August 2009 and I think a few Sundays ago took the cake. When the set up crew arrived at 7 a.m., there was stuff everywhere from a "party" that lasted until 5 a.m. "Protection" was all over the bathrooms. UGH. )

Otherwise? In other churches, we have allowed churches to use our space for a donation, but usually they aren't church groups.

 

Not quite the same, but my parents' church bought a Presbyterian church. Everything was included in the price, including the chairs in the sanctuary, the office furniture, and the preschool supplies.

They had previously been meeting in a rental hall like SaggyWoman described, so it was a joy and a blessing to get their own church building.

 

My church had a Luthern congregation that used it between services quite a few years ago. We also had a Ukranian congregation that did the same thing later on.

My view is that reaching people for the Lord is more important than man-made denominations. As long as it is the same gospel message I have no problem with it.

 

No, no, no....

It would be ok to rent or buy a building that another denomination had been in previously, but why would you share with people that preach false doctrine? Pentacostals believe in speaking tongues and that you can lose your salvation....both false. Catholics baptize infants and believe that Mary is someone to pray to....also false.

 

I certainly don't have a problem with it if the church visiting had a fire or some other emergency, and they needed to borrow space.

 

And what about selling your old building to those nasty old Pentecostals, Lutherans, or Presbyterians... HORRORS!

 

Nope, at least not to my knowledge. We are always using our church, whether for a service or classes.

 

I know you a being sarcastic, but it's actually a good point. I would be completely against selling, or renting, the church building to a group that preaches a false gospel. We, as Christians, should not engage in any activity that furthers a false gospel. If that means we have to wait a while longer to sell our old building, then so be it.

 

I don't know if it was a different denomination but it was a Korean Church and still is. They have a small fellowship and rent space.

 

I'm not too worried about whether it's against the law or not. I don't believe God would be pleased with me if I sold a building to muslims, catholics, pentecostals, or any other group promoting a false religion. God trumps the law in my book .

I do understand that the church is the people and not the building, but I don't believe we should help supply a building to those promoting a false religion.
