This is a simple poli of Christians and their thoughts about the current debate on whether to drop, or keep the military "Don't ask, don't tell" policy.

Please complete the poll, and feel free to comment....

I would get in a foxhole with ANY other soldier serving his country! I control my sexual activities regardless of where I am.
I may have held hands with dying soldiers who may have been homosexual in Korea....I didn't ask as they were dying!

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Good response, Jim.

Righteousdude2, to answer your question, I am in favor of the don't ask, don't tell. But that's just me.

    yes, i would.
not that I approve of the gay lifestyle.
but it's a battle zone, and gay or not, he's going to shoot back and cover my back as much as i'll cover his.
we will need each other then.

and if he don't end up biting his fingernails and screaming for his momma (which even non-gays are wont to do in a very heated firefight), he'll have my total respect.

I would have no problem being in a foxhole or a shower with someone who is gay. I want to be with happy people. Now how you could be happy with the enemy firing at you is another story.

Since you have been brained washed by L.E.F.T. is it possible you are talking about homosexuals?

With the enemy firing at me, the least of my worries is who is in the foxhole with me - as long as they are firing their weapon. Hmm, how about a female homosexual in the foxhole with you?
    hmmmmmm

The real question is would you want to share your foxhole with an adulterer, whether that individual is a man or a women.????

I refuse to use the word "gay" to describe homosexuals. It makes it seem like something less abhorrent.

Given the choice of keeping or not keeping the "don't ask - don't tell" policy I have to vote to keep it. However, if it were up to me, I would revert to the policy before that which permitted asking and telling meant disqualification. I see no reason to play games by hiding something that's a known problem. Disclosure of relevant facts should not be a problem.

I know for a fact that people of all types can and often do come together in war. I served in combat and combat support duties with men I don't think I'd want to hang around with otherwise and others I'm proud to be with even today. I remember men who were "friends" that shared in what we had to do at the time but with whom I didn't have much in common otherwise. No one took much time to ask about personal things in those days but, of course, homosexuality was still very much taboo in society as a whole. It did pop up now and then and I know of a couple of cases in which I had the very unpleasant task of dealing with the offenders - one couple caught in the act. But, it wasn't just that which made for differences among men - other things like heavy drinking, drug use, excessive cursing, visiting the whorehouse, etc. were other reasons you might not want to hang around with someone outside the duties at hand. You put a lot of that aside when it was time to watch each others back. Men did their jobs because, frankly, their lives depended upon it. Most of the time the guys didn't have time for such things that would be gross distractions and won't tolerate it - especially the drug use or drunkenness. We had a way of enforcing discipline amongst ourselves. That's in general and with regard to dealing with whatever came my way.

Never the less, homosexual conduct should not be permitted in the military - fortunately it is still unlawful - and it only logical that a person who declares them self to be homosexual is very likely to engage in it. The intent of the present trend is to eventually do away with the prohibition on homosexual conduct - yet another step in justification of this sin among men. Other offenses such as adultery or illicit sexual conduct - anything except private consensual sex between persons not married at all or married to one another - is also illegal and may result in discharge. Some of these sins have already reached a level of "justification" among men yet that should not be a valid reason to extent like treatment to yet another that still has some rightful negatives associated with it. The reason is that all these things serve to disrupt the good order and discipline that's absolutely necessary in our military. It effects morale in an adverse manner and is therefore a detriment. I know many people don't understand that but I think most older veterans and wise leaders not caught up in political correctness do. The fact that the consensual sex mentioned is not against the law does not mean it is approved or condoned but simply that it is not punishable as an offense. Laws are designed to restrain sin and its temporal consequences - they can not eliminate it nor address the eternal consequences we all face.

By the way, even legitimate marriage and subsequent co-habitation - especially in war - is regulated by the military and. even as difficult it might be to understand for those in love, it is very necessary because it also can have an adverse effect on the mission. Civilians often can't relate to these things because they don't have these kinds of restrictions on their individual freedom for the benefit of the service.

I don't think anyone is thinking of sex when their life is on the line. I'm in favor of "don't ask, don't tell". I would never ask anyone their sexual preference in any industry.

    Interesting thing, Sgt Salty, sir.
Back in the late 60's when the forerunners of the current muslim insurgency in my country were in their beginnings, I did share a foxhole with an adulterer.
They had overrun the squad (we were mostly small units then) ahead and were giving us quite a beating.
The guy swore by the name of all he considers holy that if he gets out of there in one piece he will never again go after married women.
I was unconverted at the time so we were laughing our heads off all the while in the midst of that fight.

It's Not That You'd Ask About Sexual Preference...

.... it is about the fact that most gays want the world to know they are gay. If they just keep their mouths "shut!" there would be no problems with them in our society. Don't get me wrong. What they are doing is STILL a sin!

It's just that every gay I know has to broach the subject as soon as they can slip the topic into the conversation. Us straights don't go around telling everyone that we are straight. It seems to me that gays are just wanting and looking for controversy and confrontation where ever they go.

That's a good story - another "foxhole Christian" wanted to make a bargain with the Lord! It happens a lot! I wonder if your fellow solider kept his promise?

    No, he wasn't a Christian.
    He was Catholic, non-practicing even.
And I don't know if he ever did.
He was transferred to another Infantry Bn.
Actually, brought along by our major who took a liking to him.

    Foxhole, schmoxhole.

The question is incorrect. When you're sharing a foxhole, or a spot on the wall, or wherever with someone else, the last thing on your mind is sexual orientation.

The question should be: Will you share your living quarters with a known homosexual? Because *that* is what we will be asking our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines to do.

How often do we sit in the foxhole under fire? Not nearly as often as we go to our living quarters, whether it be an 8 or 20-man tent, or a 2-man connex box, share the same showers and toilet areas, etc., etc.

General Order #1 for the Air Force says that a male cannot be alone in a room with another female, even just watching TV; if caught, they are subject to non-judicial punishment. How will this apply to sexual orientation, since this General Order is obviously based on sex?

I think in 20 more years or so the AFUSA will disintegrate into a demoralized, immoralized institution.

He could be wearing nylons and high heels just as long as his shooting is straight.

In a foxhole taking fire from the enemy----fire your weapon at the enemy---if we both survive---we'll have a chance to talk later about some changes you need to make----If I die and you survive---I'll go on up to GloryLand--meanwhile you'll look pretty for the next foxhole!!!------and hopefully---you'll be shooting a bit straighter for the next guy than you did for me!!---------but the big question is-----would you rather be sharing a foxhole with Corporal Maxwell Klinger---whose only request was a Section 8 discharge???---dressed in his "Chafans", black pumps and white gloves to his elbows----with a big ole stogy in his mouth and a M-1 Garand looking through the Peep sight fixin to plaster the enemy-----Corporal---just fire your weapon and we'll talk discharge later!!

The original reason to keep homosexu@ls out of the military was due to being a security risk. Should a HS joined and he kept it a secret, then have access to confidential/secret info, then the enemy (the Russians) would be able to blackmail him into giving classified info over.

    PS

How many of you guys who served in Europe during the Cold War, we were required to report any sighting of Soviet Mission vehicles?

Would you believe I still have my SMALM card! As soon as I find it in one of my boxes, I will post it.

Bolded above: This has not been the case with me, and it seems I've always been surrounded by gays & lesbians (mostly lesbians) nearly my entire work history (30 years or so). Currently I have a gay & lesbian working for me, the gay fellow has been with me on and off for at least 10 years, and in spite of the rainbow tattoo on his arm he's not brought the subject up directly and we stand side by side at the urinals and frankly it ain't a big deal. The lesbian has been with us for about 5 months I suppose and no direct confrontational "I lesbian-deal with it" attitude at all, just once an indirect reference to her girlfriend.

Gayness isn't the worst sin out there...
