I know there are Christians opposed to both the music of the show as well as the "Idol" in the name, but I've noticed that, relatively speaking, it's a clean show. It appeals to a wide range of people, including many teens and tweens, and the language is generally G rated, PG at worst. Sex, violence, drugs, and the like are nonexistent in its present format. Overall, very wholesome... assuming the whole rock star thing isn't a foregone conclusion for the negative.

As to the singing, well, some try. :) Some are actually good. I feel, though, that I have to watch too many performances I don't enjoy to find one or two that I do. AI is a neat concept but I'm not, and never will be, a committed fan.

    What says ye?

We enjoy watching it here. I haven't watched it in a few weeks but the rest of the family has. I LOVE "Big Mike" (the guy who's wife had the baby during Hollywood week). It's a fun show to watch.

I love Idol. Wouldn't miss it. For singing, I mostly favour the men cos I am not a fan of the female voice.

The beginning days are a riot. The people who think they can sing! Or, are they just getting on the telly?

There have been a few commited Christians on Idol and they have maintained their testimony throughout.

The kids are also learning about the real life. It is not easy "out there", and people like Simon are keeping them aware of that.

There are some interesting stories behind these kids who sing on idol, and that is something I enjoy immensely. For example, the girl who won last year came from a Christian home, and her mother and other relatives phone her everyday to keep her in tune with reality. Kerry Underwood made her first hit with a song written by a Canadian. The song was about his sister who died in a motor accident in Nova Scotia, titled Jesus Take the Wheel. It took her to the top, and she continues as a favourite. She is now engaged to a Canadian hockey player in Ottawa.

These are the kinds of things I like about Idol. It goes beyond the rock music thing.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I don't watch it except during the city try outs where the folks who think they can sing prove that they can't. It's quite entertaining.

"All my friends and family said that I can sing great." Your friends and family obviously lied.

I do, and I particularly like the early weeks. Although the later weeks grew on me last year.
