Obama Aides See ‘Extended Period’ of Unemployment

By Rebecca Christie and Mike Dorning

March 16 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. employers won’t hire enough workers this year to lower the jobless rate much below the level of 9.7 percent reached in February, three Obama administration economic officials said today.

The proportion of Americans who can’t find work is likely to “remain elevated for an extended period,” Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner, White House budget director Peter Orszag and Christina Romer, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, said in a joint statement. The officials said unemployment may even rise “slightly” over the next few months as discouraged workers start job-hunting again.

Jobs should be the focus of Congress and the administration, not a healthcare plan 2/3 of the population doesn't want.

Sounds to me like the administration is giving up on creating jobs in favor of creating a new entitlement.

Sorry you failed to see the connection.

OK, I see now. I thought you were somehow using the article to support the unemployed giving up looking for work...simple mix-up :)

    Liars with an agenda.

No matter who they have to run over or how badly they have to subvert the process, they forge ahead.

There will be a day of reckoning. They will lose their majority, reducing their president to an insignificant figurehead for the false idol of a national healthcare plan. His "grand socialist agenda" will come to a screeching halt.

They will have no one to blame but themselves. We simply can't afford this healthcare plan , nor this president. Democrats are the enemies of America.

Why don't you tell that to some Democratic veterans? Go ahead and do it. They would probably have too much class to beat you up. You should also tell that to the families of Democrats who died fighting Bush's war in Iraq. We'll see how well that works out for you.

No one's less American than you because of political differences. It's okay; I forgive you.

Nice redirection, but way off base. They are not the locos in Washington trying to do their best to bankrupt our country while advancing their socialist aims.

Jobs are still being lost every day. The rate is fairly steady because it doesn't take into account those whose benefits have run out and are now hanging in the breeze. Nothing has been done that will help generate, or regenerate, new/old jobs. "Shovel-ready" was a joke and only catered to those who knew what was coming... it did not make new jobs but put those already on the payroll back out there wasting money on things that were not needed. Tax cuts haven't helped make jobs but have allowed business owners to cut more people without losing as much money.

King Zero and his thugs have wasted a year pushing for something we don't need and most do not want. That's a year of wasted opportunity and a year of the lives of those who are unemployed. It doesn't matter to the Thug In Charge as he has his velvet lined existence fully furnished by the American people, as do all the demo-idiots in Congress who are bowing and scraping to Lord Reid and Lady Pelosi.

Sometimes I really wish we could hit the reset button and back the world up.

    No problem.

No matter who you are or what your history, if you're a member of the democrat party, you either are an enemy of America or you support those who are.

    Holw's that?

and the availability of jobs should be accomplished by reducing unnecessary regulations required of employers, and lowering taxes.

Uh huh, but Obama is an economically illiterate socialist ideologue.

So that's not likely to happen until he's forced.

I love you in Christ and none of your personal hatred towards me or your fellow man will stop that. I wish I could give you a big hug. :1_grouphug: With that said, you have serious issues and you need mental help. I'm glad all of my Republican friends aren't like that.

I love my country, and you can't stop that.

 Couldn't handle the truth without a personal attack , I see.

Just so there won't be any misunderstanding, let me repeat:

Thanks for the expressions of "Christian" love for this mentally ill, hateful (but honest ;)) person.

I wonder if your pastor knows about your "Christian love" towards other Christians. You should be ashamed of yourself, or at least your family should be. You don't have the right to question other people's patriotism over political differences.

    More personal attacks.

    From a "Christian"?

BTW My pastor, and everyone else I know, knows what I think about those who support the murder of the innocent, the destruction of the family and the destruction of America.

Since I suspect you to be in denial, that describes democrats and their agenda.

Now. give me some more "Christlike" personal attacks. I need another good laugh.

Why don't you just come out and say that you hate me? Even then, I still will love you in Christ.

I've never murdered anyone, destroyed a family, or tried to destroy America. My Republican pastor, the Rev. Dr. Mac Brunson, loves his Democratic church members.
When I was in school, I learned to capitalize proper nouns.

Read your own posts and you'll see some.

Sorry Sonny. You vote for 'em and support 'em, you are tarred by their brush.

Riding that fence will forever give you problems with Christians who vote like Christians on the first 2 issues.
