    Good for Obama!

I must admit...this one caught me by surprise.

    Hope this policy sticks.

I live on Florida's gulf coast, and i love the idea of moving towards energy independence.

Can't wait to see how the tree huggers respond! :tongue3:

Wow imagine that...those evil right-wingers have been trying for this for 8 years and the Dems have shut it down. Now they'll do it and act like it's their own idea.

On it's surface, it looks good. But I'd have to see how he would try to regulate it and how much latitude he would give oil companies before I could congratulate him.

I just find it amusing that he ran in Florida on the promise of upholding the ban on offshore drilling and now, he's gone back on that promise and nobody on the Left seems to care.

Until PROVEN otherwise, this is just one more case of a "wolf in sheep's clothing"!

Yes, I am very cynical of ANYTHING this administration does that makes common sense; I'm waiting for the ulterior motive to surface!!!!!

This is one example of the cry from the resident libs that the "0" be opposed on issues only, not his character. This will be a plus for the "0" if no-one looks past the "issue" to his motivation behind the action.

A snake is a snake is a snake. Just because it may be resting, or covered with rose petals does not change it's character.

The "0" is the "0" is the "0"; no matter the outward show of common sense.

I expect they will then be holding their secret meetings on the top of oil rigs and you won't be able to get within 50 miles of one with a deep drop rig. :)

    Speculation on my part...

I am guessing the Obama and the dems will say that he has moved to the center in the spirit of compromise on off-shore drilling...

And then will ask for Cap and Trade to be passed in return.

Once that passes there will be no actual off-shore drilling because the interior department will issue a report saying that there are no appropriate sites.

There is a lot of possibilities as to why, but to increase our own drilling is a plus. We should drill enough wells to be independent of any oil anywhere else in the world. I don't think this will happen, but at least this is a step in the right direction.

    Is this an increase?

The OP says that existing areas of Alaska will be put off limits.

    What is the net effect?

It seem like if you restrict drilling in one area, and increase it in two areas, there would be a net increase. Also, drilling is easier and cheaper in the Gulf than it is in Alaska. The climate is better. If this is a ploy to decrease overall drilling it is a mistake, and I will be the first to admit it. I saw this article on CNN.com and thought it was interesting and could be a plus to the oil industry. And, that is would help to make us energy independent.

That would depend on what oil is available and at what depths.
It depends on site specific conditions.
    Who knows?

    We shall see.

This is clear evidence that Obama is owned by the same people who own the Bush family. "Honest politician," when you buy him, he stays bought.
