Today's sermon was about "who is greatest in the kingdom?" The pastor preached out of... Luke 22 and taught this sermon because they were having deacon and ministry pastor ordaination today.

Basically, he could have said it a couple of times and ended the sermon by saying the greatest is the servant.

What was your sermon about today?

Something about the resurrection - but I wasn't there so I don't know for sure. We had "Accepted Student's Day" at my senior's college so we missed church.

Jumping ahead - not waiting for God to direct us.

How the story of the Good Samaritan relates to our attitudes today:

The robbers attitude: "what is yours is mine, I'll take it"
The priest and Levite: "what is mine is mine, I'll keep it!"
The Samaritan: "what is mine is yours, I'll share it."

Sorta socialistic for a Baptist preacher wasn't it? ;)

    Come-on it's Monday.
You mean I have to listen to it and remember what it was about?

Well, it was about doing the thing that's most important to you,
Relating to the stewardship of your time in the context of evangelism.

Preached on the parable of the four soils (Mark 4:1-20).

With the exception of a couple of retired folks and some police officers, just about everybody in our church is a farmer or some related field so this always goes over well.

Or, as one of my mentors in ministry once said, "...and yes, I admit that I did plagiarize much of my sermon today from the Bible".

    Welcome to my world, Blackbird.

My favorite is when the phone rings at 6:30 and someone says "Brother so and so has malaria and can't preach this morning. Would you mind?" and I have nothing ready.

We had a visiting preacher of the old school Fundamental variety. His "sermon" was about discerning the contemporary age. He was scripturally deficient. Sometimes he announced texts without any reading of the same nor a summary. But he had that certain sermonic voice which passed for substance to some I guess.

He brought a guest who spoke at our adult Sunday school class. The guest spoke of the evils of CCM with very little Bible backup.

I'm waiting for my pastor to continue in John 6 this coming Sunday. He's expositional, which I appreciate.

I heard a preacher once tell a story about a missionary who carried a record player and a stack of rock and roll records into the deepest, darkest jungles of Africa and played them for the natives.

The preacher's story was that the natives were horrified because the beats the rock records had were allegedly the same that the native witch doctors used to call up demons.

Most of the people in the congregation laughed at this.

First, if the guy was in the middle of the jungle with a tribe that had never before been contacted by the outside world, where did he get the juice to make the record player work?

Second, why on Earth was he dragging the record player with him through the jungle in the first place? Not to mention the records. Wouldn't the heat and humidity of the jungle have severely warped the records?

Most anti-rock arguments are pretty silly.
