A while back our corporation hired it's first female employee at our location for a job that normally would have been considered not too long ago a man's job. And one that I think should still be a man's job. We had two restrooms. One was nicer and larger than the other. She was given the key to the nicer restroom. One female mind you, and the rest of us, about 30 guys have to use the one seat, one urinal restroom. The following is the letter I sent to our Senior General Foreman. A woman SGF, are you surprised? It was ignored. Again, are you surprised? I guess it was what I expected. Then I found out that the SGF wanted to fire her because of her lack of work ethic and her boss told her something to the effect, "Do you think there is anyway I am going to fire my first female hire? :tonofbricks:

"I would like to address the situation that has arisen due to the hiring of a female at the Engine Terminal. I feel like it is wise to make you aware that many feel you are engaging in gender discrimination. The situation with the lack of restroom facilities is being exacerbated by the closing off of one restroom for the sake of one new hire. Do you not see how that under equal protection each one of us could request our own private restroom? Take for instance the event of an emergency on the pit that required one to immediately wash the body and the one restroom that is available is occupied. I can understand that a restroom needs to be made available for the new female employee and that concessions and accommodations should be made in certain circumstances, but keeping allocated restrooms under lock and key when the female is not present is an egregious overkill. I ask on behalf of myself and my fellow employees that you rethink the handling of this situation before further examination reveals activity unbecoming of a major corporation. I trust this letter will be received in the spirit of information and discovery it was intended."

Stop whining and do your job. You aren't paid to worry about the gender of other employees. Do what you are paid for.

Be a man and water the trees outside. A woman can't hold it as long if the restroom is taken. Female urethras are shorter than men's by the approximate length of the male organ, and they also have 3-7 (and sometimes longer) days for their menstrual cycle, during which they need to have access to water and private rooms for the sake of hygeine. Put it altogether and women have a MUCH tougher time and greater need of proper restroom facilities than men.

If you want to get all old fashioned, it's just plain courtesy for a man to offer a woman more comfort and convenience, even if it means using a smaller indoor plumbing facility. If you can't give up something that minor for the sake of a woman who, be definition, needs it more than you, that's very very sad.

Stop and think. Stop and be nice about women using bathrooms. It's so easy, even a caveman can do it.

Wow...if you could have a woman in an interracial relationship take Cutter's own personal restroom, his head would likely explode.

I don't know, this just made me laugh.

I guess the woman is supposed to use the one urinal?

No, I think there were two points:
    1. The lone female could use the smaller restroom with use of a key
    2. and when she is not using, the room could be utilized by the males - with the key

Cant we just all get along - with some common sense?

I would make a joke about "I would never wish to be a potty to discrimination," but that would be too lame of a joke to make.

    Oops.

Do you ever edit down a "quoted" post?

If I do, it is my choice, and not your concern, especially in a topic not being addressed to you.

Oh, sorry, didn't realize this was a private forum.

but one of my pet peeves is when someone quotes an entire ( esp lengthy ) post, when just a few words or a couple of sentences would do.

Besides, what i was trying to do, oh forget it

One of my pet peeves is someone who doesn't even attempt to make sure their spelling is correct, yet the threads you start are constantly riddled with spelling errors. You don't see me blasting it you for it however. The point is that your post was unnecessary. If you found his quoting technique to be unacceptable, either deal with it (as I do your spelling errors) or talk to him in private about it.

Obviously, I'm not following my own advice here, but I'm purposefully ignoring it to make a point. :)
