Happy meal toys to be banned in CA county

More liberal government intrusion into private industry and the family. This is just plain stupid....but I'm not really surprised.

[Rant] They should never have outlawed those candy cigarettes and bubble gum cigars either. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?!

They act as if there is a health crises or something going on with the kids today. You’d think these mega corporations’s marketing was programming our young children to begin unhealthy nutritional habits or something. Like profit was the bottom line for them instead of promoting good nutrition habits and perfectly ethical conveniences. Certainly it is evident in our society today that parents don’t need any support in such trivial matters.

Don’t they know how much we parents resent big daddy government setting a few restrictions on these types of influences on our children? How dare them take an unnecessary step like this and impose such a drastic rights violation on obviously perfectly informed and responsible parents. Obviously only liberals would be accepting of such nonsense! Grrr [/Rant]

 

This stuff irritates me, and I am considered a liberal by many here.

This is absurd and I hope the residents of this county turn their local leaders out in their ears in the next election.

Of course McDonald's is out to make money, isn't that what businesses do. Why should they be forbidden to put a cheap worthless toy in a kid's people just because parents are too weak kneed to make proper decisions for their kids?

Does McDonald's there offer fruit and milk in their Happy Meals like they do here?

Argh - that is a parent's job. When my kids were growing up I told them to use me for the 'bad guy' if they were in an uncomfortable situation and did not know how to say no. That is fine for children and part of parenting, but the government IS NOT my mommy or daddy!!!!! I can make my own choices with my kids and I DON'T want them to do the job for me!!!

That's stupid.

I love those toys. I've been known to go into McDonald's and just pay for a toy and not get any food. The ones for kids three and under are usually just adorable! (and yes, for myself!)

It's Counterproductive Anyway

because Happy Meal portions are actually smaller.

 

There is other stuff at McDonalds that I'd do away with first. Not much to a happy meal.

I've saved that stuff for years for my school goody box. I do have a problem with people eating a constant menu of junk, but I'm sure NOT for the government telling me what soylent green I have to eat.

 

I usually toss the Happy Meal toys. They are all made in China and I'm afraid they are full of lead or other chemicals that could hurt my kids. Of course, I'm sure McD's food isn't good for them, either.

 

Exactly - which is why I like to cook real food as much as possible instead of all that processed junk. Then, I can control what goes in it.
