If so, breaks my heart. Or do you support drilling because of coast line envy?

Anone still want BP and Dutch Shell to drill on the Atlantis coast and off of California?

First thing that hit my mind when I heard it was I wonder if some environmental nut set of the explosion - they have been fummmmming since odrama decided to "drill."

With all the drilling that has gone on and is going on off shore I doubt it will slow anything down. I worked on platform automation back in the 60s so bet there are buuuuuunches of them around.

I'm sure there will be some safety changes as well as more emergency shut off requirements soon.

" Does anyone besides billwald want $10/gallon gas? " When gas hit .89 a gallon I thought they were holding me up with guns every time I got gas.

The beaches along our coast are considered some of the cleanest and whitest sands in all the world.

    Still I say:

    Drill, drill, drill!

Pensacola Beach... about 25-30 miles from home.

    Dear Bill...

... the reality is, if we don't drill for this oil, some other country will tap those reserves through sideway/slant drilling, and "drain us dry."

So the facts are plain and simple... we either take the chance of having these kind of tragedy's, or, we will be drained (financially, speaking) dry by those nations who sell us the oil.

I just don't understand why we don't make our corn, wheat, and other grains as precious as the arabs - and others - have made their oil ? I wonder if the price of oil could be made reasonable again, by charging a comparable price per bushel ?

Of course, I'm sure there are those BHL's who will say that the USA needs to keep the price of grain reasonable for the good of humanity all around the world... after all they are people, too ???

To echo others who already posted: Drill, Baby, Drill!!!

I live on the gulf coast of Florida. I have for 30 years. I agree that we need to end our dependence on a communist's oil (Venezuela) and Muslim control of oil (the Gulf states). We need to drill safely but we need to drill.

I'm not willing to cheap gas for a loss of clams, oysters, lobsters, shrimp, crabs . . . .

    http://www.whatgas.com/petrol-prices/unleaded-prices.html

GB is paying 123 pence/liter, a dollar will buy 0.65 pounds. You do the math, to early for me. Around $7/gal? Our gas is way under priced.

I would suggest that you employ some of your union tactics and boycott gasoline until all offshore drilling ceases.

How's the scab labor house building going?

    1. I'm not in Great Britain and wouldn't want to be. So what they do doesn't matter to me.

    2. Why don't you start paying twice your gas bill when you stop for gas? I am sure the gas stations would gladly take it.

bill, since you don't like what you're paying for gas, perhaps you could donate the "underpaid" amount to a charity. And no, the local teamsters doesn't count...

    Maybe I Wasn't Clear!

I meant to raise the cost per bushel for those in oil producing nations to the point where it is as expensive there to buy cereal, bread, etc. as it is here to buy gas and heat our homes.

And the answer to your question is, yes! I help with the shopping, and it is quite expensive, and draining on our "fixed" budget as a retiree.

    >bill, since you don't like what you're paying for gas,

    Learn to read!

I am happy as a clam to pay less than $4/gal. Back when gas was two bits people were happy to earn two bucks an hour, or 8 gallons/hour. $3/gal / $24/hour = 8 gal/hour. $24/hour * 2080 standard work hours/year = $49,920/year, median family income. In other words, in the 60 years the real cost of gas in work hours/gal has doubled, less than the inflation rate over the last 60 years.

I know we need our own oil, but...

.... while I see the need to drill, and I did write about this in an earlier post/comment, I am still saddened for the harm that this disaster is going to bring up nature, and the folks who need to fish and catch shrimp for a living. There has been too much loss in the Guld area the past few years, this was not needed.

For members affected by this disaster, YOU WILL BE IN MY PRAYERS, and you have my sincere thoughts and wishes for everything to clear up sooner than later!

Yes. Although we live in Maryland, I am from LA near the Gulf Coast and my family still owns a couple of homes there.

Yes, I still want them to drill.

What you fail to realize is that this is just one incident out of tens of thousands of drilling operations dating back to the 30's. Nobody ever said that no accidents would ever happen but at the same time, when you examine the overall history, accidents have been very, very few and are usually cleaned up pretty quickly.

Another thing you fail to realize is that oil seeps up from the ocean floor naturally and nobody even has a problem with it because they understand that nature regulates itself. This is not the end of the Gulf Coast. It isn't going to kill the fishing or shriming industry. A couple of birds may die and that's sad, but it's not going to kill off any species. While we should clean it up as much as we can, nature, through the natural cycles that God in His great wisdom and foresight has created it to do, will clean itself.

The third thing I don't think you really understand is that while oil is messy and is not the best energy source and whether you like it or not, the world runs on oil. So until Doc Brown invents the Mr. Fusion for cars, and as much as I love alternate sources of energy, I recognize that we need oil and must get it one way or the other.

    Bill, you are absolutely right.

Those who say drill, drill, drill are really saying.............
Waa, Waa, Waa ... I don't care if all the fishermen and shrimpers are put of business.

Waa, Waa, Waa, I don't care if all the beaches are spoiled.

Waa, Waa, Waa, I don't care if all the hotels and vacation industry goes broke

Waa, Waa, Waa, I want cheap gas and I don't care what it costs others.

Waa, Waa, Waa, I don't care if God said in Genesis that we are to take care of the earth, I want it raped so I can have cheap gas.

Waa, Waa, Waa, Waa, Waa, Waa, Waa, Waa, Waa, Waa!
