Tomorrow the people will speak! With the obvious opposition to HCR every senator or representative who voted yes and is in a primary tomorrow and in the next few weeks will certainly be defeated!

Tyranny will meet it match when the people speak tomorrow and in the weeks to come!

Let us hope the ostrich really does have its head out of the sand. I'll believe it, however, when I see it. But, here's to hope.

For the first time in decades I'm hoping Arlen Spector WINS in his democratic primary election.

I want to vote against him one more time in the general election... and this time know my vote counted to kick him out of office!

Throw all the incumbents out. The current crop in both parties is failing to govern in a responsible way. Someone has to be elected who will make the tough decisions of cutting spending and raising taxes. If this does not happen we will end up like Greece, or even worse.

    How odd.

You were in favor of the deficit spending before you were against it - after the money that we don't have was spent.

Best prospect for this is NJ Governor Chris Christie.

I am voting for Rand Paul for US Senate from Kentucky tomorrow. It is a sad day when we basically have to choose between two anti-Constitutional parties, neither of which care one iota about the American people. It is up to us to vote out every incumbent since there is not a viable third choice this year. But we will not. All of you Republican apologists will continue to elect the same, failed, establishment, trash you have recycled for decades. And you liberal, socialist type Democrats will continue to elect the same old leaders that keep taking away our liberties and increasing government involvement in our lives. You just do not get it. You continue to believe in the fairy tale of a difference between the two, and cannot see the truth staring you right in the face, that both of them are the common enemy. They steal from you daily, and you still reelect them.

Oh, but they will take away Medicare, and Medicaid, and Social Security. If that is what you planned your life around there programs as some of your major goals, all one can say is, your bar is very low. Were any of these programs around before 1930? How did all those people survive? It is up to each one to make their own way, and if there are folks that truly need help, then it is up to the local church and family to help them. It is not the taxpayers job to keep masses of people in their 20s, 30s and 40s who will not work in a life free of bills that includes paying for their loratabs and xanax.

If I lived in Kentucky, I would vote for Rand. I have, however, donated to his campaign.

Rand Paul did not just win the primary, he clobbered Trey Grayson. Wake up those who are in the same old rut of Democrat vs Republican. The American people are sick to the nth degree of career politicians from both parties. People are ready to get back to Constitutional government. All of you Democrat and Republican apologists are going to left sitting on the trash heap of history.

    > Were any of these programs around before 1930? How did all those people survive?

Half the people were dead before age 60. THAT is why the SS retirement age was set at 65 years. Many less than half the people who had been paying in would ever collect.

There were two major reasons for SS. First, because most old people lived in poverty. Second, because the tax money collected under SS was immediately put into the Treasury and spent on public works programs. Boggles my mind that almost no one understands any of our history.

There were no child labor laws. My Old Man had to quit school to go to work to help support the family. It was easy to live without programs but not for long. But they were free to starve, work 60 hours on straight time, freeze in the winter, but most were free from paying income tax. Ah, the good old days without programs.

This is big. Don't you know Jack Conway has a lump in his throat knowing he has to run against someone who just won his primary by nearly a 2:1 margin. I haven't felt so good about a state-wide election since Louie Nunn beat Henry Ward in 1967.

I think it will be bigger if Rand can secure the win in the General. Unlike the primary, he'll be running against a man without Ernie Fletcher stains. Remember that now he has to bow to the establishment he fought so hard against. And KY is still blue in more ways than one. In the 90s, the dems were guilty of Boptrot, as well as a host of other issues, and the state still voted in Patton over Forgy despite the rumors of the sex scandals to come.

Thats funny, my parents, who were not well off at all, did not have to quit school. They stayed in school, worked extra jobs, got college degrees, and built careers. As far as not understanding history, look in the mirror. Another thing you are very wrong about is that when social security was founded, it was made quite clear that this was NOT an income to survive in retirement, but a supplement. No one listened, no one saved, no one relied on themselves. Now, its time to pay the piper. Why should I or anyone else subsidize someones retirement who paid 10 years into social security and collects 35-40 years, taking out mulitiples of what they put in. This is America, land of opportunity, and everyone makes their own way.

Your parents grew up before the Great Depression? You must also be older than dirt.

    > Another thing you are very wrong about is that when social security was founded, it was made quite clear that this was NOT an income to survive in retirement, but a supplement.

    True!

    >No one listened, no one saved, no one relied on themselves.

Most retired people own their house free and clear and have other assets and income besides SS.

It is estimated that without SS, the number of old people living in poverty would double thus at least half the old people have other income and assets.

    >Now, its time to pay the piper. Why should I or anyone else subsidize someones retirement who paid 10 years into social security and collects 35-40 years, taking out mulitiples of what they put in.

Which is exactly why the age to collect full benefits has been raised. 68 + 35 = 103 Not many 103 year olds collecting SS.

How many people work only 10 years under SS and collect maximum SS?

No, if you would bother to read, my parents grew up through the Depression, but the families they came from were not able to put them through college. They put themselves through. Regardless of the statistics, we all make our way. We all had the same chance, the same opportunity. Those who really need help receive it. Many people worked ten years to receive benefits then quit. They draw a certain amount until they die, and if they live a normal life span, they outdraw what they contributed by mulitiples. In other words, someone else paid their retirement.

I understand our standard of living is light years beyond what it was when social security was started. Over the last 60 or so years, we have redefined wants and needs. What used to be a want is now a need, such as a cell phone bill, as a vital utility. Or going out to eat 5 times a week instead of once a month when we grew up. It is not the tax payer's role to subsidize the elaberate lifestyle of every person who decided not to prepare for retirement.
