From the following list, please tell me what you see as being a sin, not only against your neighbor, but, a sin against God?

    • Adultery
    • Stealing, theft
    • Fornication
    • Cussing, using God's name in vain
    • Gossip
    • Lies (big, little and in between)
    • Witchcraft, sorcery
    • Idol worship
    • Lust
    • Slander
    • Exchanging natural relationships for unnatural ones (homosexuality)
    • Sexual perversion
    • Envy
    • Wickedness
    • Arrogance and boasting
    • Deceit
    • Murder
    • Malice
    • Greed
    • Disobedience of parents and authority
    • Drinking to drunkenness
    • Use of drugs
    • Astrology for daily and life time direction
    • Faithless
    • God-haters
    • Depravity
    • Invention of evil
    • Divorce and remarriage
    • Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit

Of all of the above, which one sin, or, sins, is beyond forgiveness in the eyes of God? And which one of the sins listed above will result in God's wrath and cause a person to spend eternity in Hell for failure to repent (confess and turn away from and go in an opposite direction, never to return to that sin) in this life on earth?

Your answers are very important to me, as I am currently gathering personal views on sin, and how sin effects our relationship with God while we are on earth and later in heaven.

Your names will not be used in my research, but, your answers will be used to support the subject matter of my book.

I want to thank each of you for your candid responses. There are no right or wrong answers, and no one should be responding to your answers to challenge you, or, belittle you. I'd appreciate it if those responders simply give their view(s) on the sins listed, and refrain from challenging opinions and views. Maybe you could challenge views and opinions through starting your own post. Thanks...

    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul

They are all sin in the eyes of God (and He is all that I worry about!!)

All are 100% atoned for to the elect; none for the non-elect who will "die in their sins". (BTW, the elect never will ultimate blaspheme the HS, but will come to repentance and faith by the gift of God)

Some of these carry far different stigma, punishment, disqualification, etc, for an elder or deacon or teacher in the church. Arrogance (puffing up self) is a battle to deal with in a church leader, but far different than if he were an adulterer or murderer.

I agree 100%. Blasphemy of the Holy Ghost is the only unforgivable sin.

I agree with the above. There are many other things that could be added as sins, such as gluttony.

I agree. Unfortunately a great many believers have very little understanding about what this word 'is' and means. They assume it means 'eating to much' when in fact that is not what the word actaully means. Though it is used to 'describe' the manner of the person eating is it not biblically defined as/by a persons weight - it is their manner of/in eating.

10For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

All sin will be punished. In the sinner himself, or in the God appointed substitute, The Lamb Of God.

I like the list of the seven deadly sins: wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony. That list is kind of ignored or overlooked these days, but if you think about it, every one of them is a sin against God, neighbor, or self. They pretty much sum up the list of sins that the OP stated. If you don't repent of these sins, or any other sins for that matter, you are in danger of severing your relationship with God and neighbor.

1Jn 1:5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
1Jn 1:6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
1Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
1Jn 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1Jn 1:10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

    James 2 (King James Version)
    IT IS VERSE 10
    James 2
1My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

    2For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

3And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

4Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

5Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

6But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

7Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

8If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

9But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

10For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

11For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

12So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

13For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

14What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
    :wavey:

    from deut 27
27:26 Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.
    gal 3
3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

3:4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.

3:5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

3:6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.

3:7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.

3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

3:9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

What do you see as being a sin, not only against your neighbor, but, a sin against God?

    • Adultery: both
    • Stealing, theft: both
    • Fornication: both
    • Cussing, using God's name in vain: I don't see all cussing as sin. There are times and situations when it can be.
    • Gossip: both
    • Lies (big, little and in between): most lies are sin and would be a sin against God and man. However, I think some special cases are not sin where they save life and such. (ie "is this person a Jew?"
    • Witchcraft, sorcery: both
    • Idol worship: both
    • Lust: both
    • Slander: both
    • Exchanging natural relationships for unnatural ones (homosexuality): both
    • Sexual perversion: both (but too many see normal stuff as perversion, so that needs defined, but we're not allowed to do that here, so just in general let's say it needs discussed among believers!)
    • Envy: both, if it turns into action
    • Wickedness: well yah, both
    • Arrogance and boasting: both
    • Deceit: both, but refer to lying in extreme situations
    • Murder: both
    • Malice: both
    • Greed: both, if it goes to the point of affections actions
    • Disobedience of parents and authority: both
    • Drinking to drunkenness: both. GRRRR
    • Use of drugs: both
    • Astrology for daily and life time direction: both. Astronomy is another story though, and shouldn't be confused with astrology.
    • Faithless: do you mean having a hard time having faith in different aspects of Christianity? I don't think that's a sin. Weakness isn't always sin. A child who doesn't have adult behaviors isn't sinning, they are simply not grown.
    • God-haters: both
    • Depravity: both
    • Invention of evil: both
    • Divorce and remarriage: depends on whether the divorce or remarriage wasn't allowed by Scriptural law.
    • Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit: only against God since it is an individual choice and only affects the individual and not his/her neighbor.

Of all of the above, which one sin, or, sins, is beyond forgiveness in the eyes of God?

Answer: Blasphemy. I believe blasphemy is unbelief...ie you do not believe in God's way of salvation, which is denying the conviction of truth that each individual on this earth is presented with in some form during their lifetime.

And which one of the sins listed above will result in God's wrath and cause a person to spend eternity in Hell for failure to repent (confess and turn away from and go in an opposite direction, never to return to that sin) in this life on earth?

    Answer: Blasphemy. That is all.

Your answers are very important to me, as I am currently gathering personal views on sin, and how sin effects our relationship with God while we are on earth and later in heaven.

Reply: None of those questions really address that. Our sins on earth have consequences on earth, and later in heaven, although they were forgiven. That is because they prevent us from growing, which prevents us from earning the rewards promised, and the only reason for those are that we will have something to lay at the feet of our Savior. To have little or nothing to give will be a horrible experience for believers who choose to live a lazy spiritual life on earth. I also believe that our lives will not be lived in heaven. We'll have access, but our dwelling will be on the renewed earth. Right here. I believe it's possible that our level of responsibility...what we'll be entrusted with, will be individual and a direct reflection of what we did with what we were given on this earth.

I don't think any of the above is unforgiveable. However, each one requires repentance which means to live oppositely to each of those mentioned.

All of these are sins and all can be forgiven, though I do agree with Dr Bob about blasphemy though.

Also, all sins are sins against God or they are not sins at all.
Most sins are also sins against other men as well to some degree. Some sins directly affect other people. Other sins only indirectly.

Divorce and remarriage The problem with this is that I don't believe God recognizes divorce. "What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." Therefore, upon remarriage one is living in a perpetual state of adultry. In order to receive forgiveness of a sin, I believe there must be genuine repentance coupled with the intention to stop sinning. This is not possible if one continues to live as though married to the second person. I believe this is what Jesus meant when He told the woman at the well that the one whom you now have is not your husband.

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit See Matthew 12:31.

    Which is "beyond" forgiveness?

    Well, this one:

Matthew 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

I have a different take on it. I don't believe it is a sin that can be committed today. It was directed at the Pharisees during the time of Jesus when he stood before them in the flesh and accused him of doing his miracles in the power of Satan, rather than in the power of the Holy Spirit.
They blasphemed the Holy Spirit. They saw his miracles and attributed them to the power of Satan.

    This cannot be replicated today.
It is no longer applicable today. No one can commit this sin today.
