    Dec 25, 2011; Christmas Day will be on a Sunday.

    Christmas also came on a Sunday in 2005. Many churches - esp mega Churches cancelled services - so folks could have family time.

    As you are making your church calender for 2011, will your church have services?

    We have a service every Christmas Day no matter what day of the week.

    Yes, but we'll only have 1 service at 10 am with no SS.

    But it wasn't just the mega churches that cancelled their services. Lots of medium and small churches cancelled also.

    Last "Christmas Sunday," We tried only one service.

    It was a zoo--way too full. We'll definitely have two services--maybe even three. Of course, no other activities for us (Sunday School, evening services, etc.)--and no Christmas Eve service (we normally do that from 4-4:45 on Christmas Eve).

    Every church & community is different. I've served in some areas in which Christmas is a time that folks don't come--but at my current church, our attendance during Christmas (especially Eve & Day) is phenomenal...we have folks bringing their entire extended families. Our normal SUnday AM attendance is about 750...our Christmas Eve service routinely draws 4-500. I fully expect our Chrsitmas Day 2011 services to draw 100-125% of our normal Sunday crowd.

    We'll probably spread our duties out among all our staff. So that way, even if we do three services, our staff won't have to be here for all of them. (Most of us can fill multiple roles--3-4 of us can lead worship; most any of us can speak or conduct communion; etc.)

    Our biggest item of debate: What to do about nursery. Tough call--it's tough to get workers there on that day...but with our sized crowds, it's tough to do it without a nursery.

    Here in the Deep South, Christmas morning is HUGE family event. Also, for us, Christmas day is over by 12 noon. Everybody here eats dinner somewhere between 10:30 and 11:00 am. Then it's all over. There are no official Christmas night activities. Supper is just leftovers. Also, Christmas Eve is when many families open gifts around here.

    So, having church on Christmas morning is a predicament for a lot of people.

    But we do it anyway. Just a 10:00 service with no Sunday School. It's very important to gather as God's people on Christmas day.

    As best as I can recall we had services on Christmas day in 2005, but I've slept since then.......:tongue3:

    I would certainly make plans to attend church on Christmas day. I don't like missing church for any reason. Like Scarlett, we have our Christmas festivities on Christmas eve.

    Could There Be a Better Day for Christmas?

    Of course not... we are in the service of the King, and to be able to celebrate His birth on the designated as His birthday, makes that day an even holier event.

    I was trying to think what I was doing in 2005. Probably the church I was attending at that time had one 10 a.m. service period that day. I think I may have been out of town visiting my sister, though......so...

    I think it's ridiculous not to have service on Christmas Day.

    I also think it's ridiculous not to have Good Friday, Ash Wednesday, etc. instead of Independence Day, Thanksgiving, etc.

    But that's just me.

    We go from two services to one on Sunday but we'll still have our Christmas Eve services too. :)

    I couldn't imagine having both Christmas eve and Christmas Day services.

    I hope you have a "rotation" of some kind. That could get tough on the family--trying to plan around all the church services.

    Unfortunately, we don't but it works out pretty well.

    I'm just thinking about it and we're going to be in the new church then! Wonder what we'll do??!!

    Maybe if we don't have time for church on Christmas, we need to re-evaluate our priorities? Just a thought.
