I guess I failed miserably to get the type of data and comments that I needed for my book (in a different post on sin).

So, I'll start over... I'll go sin by sin, to get your comments and most importantly, the numbers from a poll. Your answers are needed, and your participation in the poll is essential if I'm going to get the kind of data I need to draw conclusions from for my book.

Again, if you comment, please let me know if it's OK to use your comment. Your name will not be used in any way.

    THANKS!!!

    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul :type:

lol...something about this just struck me as funny...

Just for asking, why do our opinions matter and why not poll other, better informed, people?

    You Are Better Informed....

... and more importantly, YOU are the person of the street. Your opinions are important to me, because I have conducted similar polls - in years past - on secular polls.

I think you folks will provide me some great answers, data, and more importantly, it will reflect a strong conservative Christian view!

I hope that helps. Of course, you don't have to answer. You, personally, are under no obligation, I just hoped board members would be of assistance in this data collection.

    Sure, use it.

Homosexual acts are a sin and will lead to God's judgment unless the homosexual offender repents.

I'm not sure how you would plan to use a website poll such as this for your book.

This poll lacks utility in many areas. Your sample size is likely to be rather limited, and it certainly is not probability-based. It most definitely could not be extrapolated to reflect the opinions of the Baptist community at large, and due to convenience sampling and self-selection of respondents, it could not even be reliably used to reflect the opinions of Baptist bulletin board participants. It MIGHT reflect the general tenor of the BB in particular, but self-selection limits your poll in this area.

If you are attempting a quantitative study, you should definitely revisit your approach.

If you are attempting a qualitative study, perhaps to establish a wide range of opinions (and not the frequency of these opinions), then you should not use a poll that limits responses. Additionally, you would likely need to poll other locations (which you may be doing).

    Best of luck to you!

Some folks are born Hetero and some Homo based on genetics and God's plan..............but I could be wrong.

I base my belief on what I saw with my own eyes, when I was growing up.

Twin brothers...one very masculine, one very feminine.

An extra Y ...or an extra X chromosome...beyond my paygrade.

BOTH children of God ?...............YES !, i believe...

So, what are we to do then with the very clear admonitions of Scripure against it?

It seems the area I'm in is taking a less harsh strategy towards homosexuals. the past two occassions a pastor from the state convention office speaking for our pastor indicated that we should limit how we speak about homosexuals and that we should treat them like everyone else and invite them to church. I think its the begining of lessing the rhetoric regarding homosexuals and sin.

I have a problem with the poll. Personally, I do not believe that homosexuality is any more of a sin than heterosexuality. It is not sexual orientation that is the sin, it is the practise. Sex outside of marriage is the sin.

So you support homosexual marriage as being not sinful?

I am not sure I understand just what you are saying. Is the church not a place for the sinner, regardless of the sin, to find Christ and salvation. Are there only certain sinners that should be invited to church?

Polls are difficult to construct. I would have liked to see more choices such as, "It is a sin, but can be forgiven." That I would have checked.

I'm citing a change from the pulpit which discussion is that the act of homosexuality is a sin and should not be engaged in. Now the dialogue is that these people are people and should be treated no differently. The fact is I don't think prior to the discussion anyone would have treated a homosexual any different than any other non church member. Espcially since we don't ask about sexual orientation. What the convention pastor was getting at are a specific group of homosexuals that are very open and demonstrative about their sexuality and how we should treat them. I don't mind these sinners hearing the gospel and acting appropiate in church but they can never be baptized, gain church membership, participate in ministry as long as they maintain their sinful life style. And if they are too demonstrative I really thing attending church on a regular basis should be limited as well.

I'm quite intrigued that you could poll a topic like this among a predominantly Baptist online community and confidently expect, with obviously merited reason, a conflicting variety of answers. Baptist are a contradiction unto themselves...people of the book who agree to disagree about what the book says...really, what is the point?

I think this is fantastic. This is one issue where the Church tragically compromises its witness time and time again.

should we also avoid sermons that targets homosexuality as a sinful lifestyle with consequences? In order to make homosexuals more comfortable in our churches?

Nope. I don't. Marriage is between one man and one woman.

I don't believe that people are born gay. However, if this is true the call of the Gospel is the same for that person. Be born again!!!

I actually don't think church services should ever be geared toward non-believers. Corporate worship is for believers.

Changing the message to one of grace is not about making people comfortable, it's about not hating them and singling them out as chief among sinners.

These are all sin. These are all placed in the scriptures to show us what not to do. To say these things are wrong and to encourage believers that these are wrong is not Antithetical to the bible. Its germain to it and the preaching of it.

Pointing out sin is not hatting them (the sinner) its loving them to keep them in the community. Homosexualiy falls under the same thing. Its not hate to encourage your congregation not to be invovled in this lifestyle.

Homosexual behavior - that is, homsexual actions - are a sin, immoral, and against Biblical teaching. But so is fornication and adultery in a heterosexual context.

A person who is attracted to the same sex is not commiting a sin unless he or she acts on it. The person him or herself who self-identifies as a homosexual but does not commit homosexual acts, and lives chastely, is not sinning but rather practicing self-control.

We are all called to live a decent life under Godly principles, no matter what our state in life is.
