I thought this would be an interesting question. If you were forced to choose another denomination, what would it be. If I had to be something other than Baptist, I would be United Methodist. I love the United Methodist Church so much because I attended a UMC for several years as a child when I lived in South Carolina, although I was never formally a member. I have a Bible that my pastor there, the Rev. Ronnie Caulder, gave me.

The name on the church sign means less to me than what is actually taught there. If I were not Baptist, I'd find a good Bible believing congregation that believed as closely as possible with Baptist doctrines.

What if you had to choose a particular denomination? Off the top of your head, which one would it be?

Wow, that's hard. Probably a Bible Church or a Brethern Church. Not sure if I spelled that last one correctly.

In spite of infant baptism probably Presbyterian (PCA) They probably are more like the origional Southern Babtist (19th century) today then any other denomination that I am familar with.

This is like asking a redneck if he couldn't drive a truck what would he drive...I mean a tractor is a reasonable option but come on that isn't a realistic question...;)

    As for the OP, non-denominational...:D

    United Methodist

I do love a number of things about reformed and Lutheran theology, as well.

I would probably choose a Lutheran church, if they still cherished the legacy of German hymnody and the music of Bach, Buxtehude, Mendelssohn, and other Lutheran musicians. I was exposed to all of that by my Lutheran father, and studied organ with a Lutheran organist; it touches my esthetic interests, theology or no.

Incidentally, I have known several Baptist ministers who became Episcopalians largely because of the beauty of the liturgy.

Or you could ask, if you are going to be executed, but the firing squad is out of the question, what would you choose?

The old Church of England in which I grew up and was led to saving faith in Christ. Reformed theology prevails and adult immersion was the practice.

Otherwise, I would choose Plymouth Brethren.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I can't imagine being something other than Baptist.

But in the spirit of the OP, I suppose Presbyterian, probably Orthodox Presby, since they're pretty conservative.

I pretty much agree with Brother Tom. If Baptist were not an option, I would belong to the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA) or a type of reformed or orthodox presbyterian.

I just might go with the Free Presbyterians. It is strongly Calvinistic and allows from of conscience on the doctrine of Baptism -- of course not allowing baptismal regeneration.

I don't appreciate their nearly KJVO stance. I think their position is a bit stronger than KJVP.

I also agree with some aspects of the Protestant Reformed Church. Herman Hoeksema is a hereo of mine.

If it came down to what individual I most agree with doctrinally outside the Baptist fold -- it would have to be a cross between Angus Steward of the PRC and Colin Maxwell of the FP's.

.....I'll have you know I resemble that remark!.... :)

Most likely I would look first at some of the non denom Sovereign Grace/Reformed Theology Bible Churches, or an Old School Presbytarian Church, but, I would look to see/feel for the love of Christ within the assembly as much as anything.
