White House Now Says It Discussed USAID Position with Candidate Andrew Romanoff

    ................The Wednesday statement from Gibbs says the discussion of a role in the administration for Romanoff was not improper, but admitted it was designed to avoid a Democratic primary battle. Gibbs said that Romanoff initially applied for a position with USAID, the foreign aid agency.

    “Andrew Romanoff applied for a position at USAID during the Presidential transition. He filed this application through the Transition on-line process,” Gibbs said. “After the new administration took office, he followed up by phone with White House personnel.”

    “Jim Messina called and e-mailed Romanoff last September to see if he was still interested in a position at USAID, or if, as had been reported, he was running for the US Senate,” Gibbs continued. “Months earlier, the president had endorsed Sen. Michael Bennet for the Colorado seat, and Messina wanted to determine if it was possible to avoid a costly battle between two supporters.”.....

    and it sounds like they have decided to make Messina the fall guy.

    Probably politics as usual.

    I heard a panel discussing this on the radio and it was said that to discuss a job is not illegal but that to offer a job is illegal.

    How clever of a distinction - sounds most "lawyer like".

    But I thought that Obama was supposed to be different.

    Does this revelation of "discussions about jobs" in an effort to get a candidate to drop out of a race bother you?

    Do you not hold the Obama administration to a higher standard because they espoused a higher standard for themselves?

    Politics as usual? Where is your displeasure at all of this?

    Totally off topic. When was Clinton accused of promising or even talking about jobs to potential candidates?

    You know you should try staying on topic and stop wandering off into never-never land trying to create strife.

    I have noticed you almost never answer anyone's question to you.

    The distinction between "discussing a job" and "offering a job" is a Clintonesque type answer.

    And what question did you ask of me?

    I did however ask you a question which you failed to answer.

    So where is your displeasure at the illegal offering of a job to get a candidate out of the race?

    You must be triple jointed - given the contortions that you are willing to take for all things Obama.
