Why dont people answer questions?

Because a direct answer is usually short and to the point. There's a few who likes to take a question and turn it into an arguement; which creates an endless pit. Let's see how many gives you a direct answer???

Maybe for the same reason that some posters take things out of context? For the record, the post of yours that he replied to said:

He was obviously responding to the second portion of your post, not the first.

 

Or.... maybe the answer was Air Force. From the Army point of view that is not the military. You, Salty, being Army, might say something like, "Air Force? I thought you said you were in the military."

Or the answer could be I am a Marine. From the Marine POV other adjectives such as Armed Forces, military, branch of service are redundant and not needed. Soldiers, sailor, airmen, MARINE. You never hear anyone say, "I am an Army. -or- I am a Navy." Ooh Rah!

Or the answer is, "I was in the Scouts." Salty's mind starts churning until he blurts out, "Cav Country! Garry Owen!" when the writer meant the Baden Powell variety.

First, there was no question in the first sentence. Second, one does not need a question to respond to a post.

 

Oh, and for the record...I've never been in the military. I also don't believe that tax payers should be paying for health care for veterans. If you sustain an injury or condition because of your service, that should be taken care of. Other health issues, not pertaining to the service you provided, should not be paid for with tax dollars.

 

Maybe a company's insurance plans shouldn't pay for one's injury or illness, unless it occurred on company time. If military pay was even near the civilian pay for the work they do; you may have 1 leg to stand on, but that would be a very weak leg. I truly believe you would have a different point of view if you "walked a mile in our boots". What is the price you put on the freedoms you enjoy????? Wonder who it is that ensures you have those freedoms!

PS: The military health plan is not 100 % free too retirees.

 

In Canada, we have universal free medicare anyway. We also have a military hospital and there are some veterans who were at Sunnybrook for all their lives. As a Korean vet, I still have some rights at the military hospital.

The attitudes of citizens, who never went to war, is much the same everywhere. Forget the people who gave the best part of their lives to mud, rain, starvation, freezing parts and living in a hole for long periods of time and for what? It was all to protect te rights and freedoms of those who never went. Hence, Korea was called the "forgotten war". We got UN medals immediately, but it took until about 12 years ago to get a Canadian Medal for Korea. We had to fight to be recognized on Nov 11th Remembrance Day.

In the USA, when men came home from Vietnam, they were even spit upon. Don't blame the soldiers for a wrong war, but that is what happened....I often wonder why I went to war in 1950! Then June 6th reminds me!

No, he probably feels outrage at your attitude towards veterans. I have no problem with those who chose not to serve, but huge problems with those who belittle either veterans or the benefits they earned. Every word I typed in the last post of the other thread before it closed, I meant to the depths of my being. This country would be well served by your purchase of a one way ticket to outer Mongolia.

 

Many private companys don't offer health insurance at all. In those cases, this is exactly what they provide, it's called workman's comp.

I'm not arguing against health benefits for current military however. I'm arguing against providing any subsidized benefits to retired military.
