In the bad old days after WW2 most every city had at least one major employer where a young person could get a job and work for the next 40 years. Most of those jobs went to Japan or wherever.

In this year government jobs are the only dependable jobs left in this country. I'm very happy that two of my kids work for the US Govt.

Somehow that your kids work for the government - the ultimate union employer - doesn't come as a surprise.

What unthining, non-ambitious slacker wouldn't want a needless, over paid, safe job where no skills are required?

Most - but not quite all - government jobs fit the above.

When one is being offensive and insulting, one might want to ensure that no typographical errors are present in one's post.

I guess he was in such a hurry to attack another Christian, he didn't take time to spell check.

So why is it news when liberals like their extreme liberal boss?

I wasn't aware that it is a requirement to be a Christian to work for the government.

How could you possibly know what "most" government jobs entail. Have you taken the time to actually research, or are you quoting some nut like Limbaugh?

It is no secret that government employees are paid more than private sector employees for the same work.

It is also no secret that government employees are protected by their unions and not subject to the same downsizing that private sector employees have been experiencing.

In fact the government has been hiring - not firing - despite the fact that the budget is busted.

Personal expience with a number of government agencies at the city, county, state and federal levels should be enough for anyone to conclude that a great many of these employees operate at less than maximum efficiency.

I hated my job at the VA but stayed there until retirement. I was thankful to have a job and not to be living on the street and eating out of garbage cans. I did leave once to go to Bible college, but that fell through after the first year due to lack of money, too many bills, and child support. Oh yes, and absolutely NO money management sense.

Government employees know there is strength in numbers. Don't be jealous of government workers. If you value your personal freedom and rights over the group (common) rights of the people you work with, good for you, but don't complain to me about the down side of your position.

    >and not subject to the same downsizing that private sector employees have been experiencing.

Most Libertarians and those on the left would be pleased to down size the military. You right wingers insist that the military spend money on stuff that is unwanted and unnecessary. For example, the Air force is getting new cargo planes that they don't want and can't use but will have to store and maintain for the next 30 years.

Right, it's strength in numbers - not ability or performance.

And there is absolutely nothing for me to be jealous of.

I have done far far better relying on myself - meaning my abilties and performance - than I ever would have relying upon some union to hold me back.

Would like to see the report on that. I'm not aware of new cargo planes on the docket; doesn't mean there aren't, just that I haven't heard or seen the reports.

The decision to go with new planes is typically based on the rising costs and availability of maintenance, as well as the age of the vehicle and average breakdown rates.
