I am scratching my head over what theology there is behind the statement I saw on a Baptist church sign last night.

    It read:

Obviously this church has two services and they are different styles. I just wonder which is the worm and which is the cheese? :tongue3:

To state the obvious (Just in case someone didn't see it), the first mouse gets killed trying to get the cheese.

The second mouse that shows up therefore gets the cheese.

My guess...someone complained about the pastor not coming in early enough to work.

This was the forum he chose to offer his answer.

Sounds like it is best to come late to church.

Obviously, the second service is the best!... They use the KJV!, and sing Traditional hymns... ROFL!

Seriously, It has no theological connections, but is designed to make people think about the church...

Obviously, it's working~! I mean, it got your attention enough to post it here.. .I wonder how many around the church is asking the same question...

Some may even come to the church to find out!...

    NO, I got it~!

It's sorta like, "look before you jump".. Just because something looks good, take any decision to God before making the final decision... Don't just hurry up and go for it...

Sin makes things look good. Take your time to make sure God wants you to do it...
Besides, who would rather eat a worm than a piece of cheese?

"Sometimes it's better to hold off and see the results of others' actions before you try your own hand. Maybe you'll miss the chance of a juicy worm, but you might also be able to figure out what to do to avoid the mousetrap and successfully grab the cheese."

(don't know what that has to do with the price of eggs in China though)

I'm sorta curious. Have any of you ever decided to attend a church service based on what was on the sign?

Another question: Can what's on the church sign give you a clue as to whether it's theology is liberal, conservative or in between?

Depends. If the sign says "KJV 1611, Premillenial"...it's probably conservative.

Actually I'd think just the opposite. A church that would LIE on a sign is suspect. A church that would elevate man-made doctrine in place of Bible truth is suspect.

(I have never beent o a church with 1611 AV on the sign where anyone actually USED a 1611 AV, have you? Maybe a pastor would have one, but no one else)

[NOTE: Let's keep on the op of signs and not morph over to the translation issue or the thread will be moved]

I saw an IFB church sign which said, "Independent, Fundamental, Pre-Millenial."

That gave me a quick clue about that church.

I also saw a church sign which said "Don't make me come down there!
    --God"
That tells me less, but it definitely is not IFB, I think.

Good point, Dr. Bob. I have seen that, though, on some Independent Baptist church signs. "Premillennial" is another popular signifier.

If we got theology from church signs, we would all be messed up.

Having said all that, why does this need to be on a church sign?
