    I am a layman (retired businessman). I have never received any formal Hebrew/Greek training (nor do I care to do so at my age). However, I enjoy Bible study and want to add 6-12 trips (per year) to one of the three seminary libraries within driving distance. The purpose of the seminary visits will be to search the resources NOT available in my personal library. I am most interested in studying scholarship published in recent journals (within the last 5 years, but definitely, no further back than the last 10 years).

    My question -- How do I identify specific published articles on selected Hebrew/Greek words and/or perplexing passages in the journals?​

    This is a serious question. I humbly ask for specific suggestions on doing a literature search of the journals accessible at these seminary libraries. Pleasssseeee, no debate. Just give me a few suggestions for searching the literature.

    Bob: I am, God willing, about to begin seminary work. In preparation I purchased two books concerning theological research. I don't have them here with me, but when I get home I will pass some things along as to resources that shoudl prove useful to you.

    Bibliotheca Sacra is a great resource which I used to read frequently when I was in Bible College. It is now available online.

    Seriously you can do better than most libraries on your own computer.
    The ability to coordinate and search books makes old-fashoned libraries obsolete.
    The day you find a pastor surrounded by a large stack of books is over!

    Galaxie Theological Journal Library offers more journals than you'd ever be able to read, in the comfort of your easy chair.

    If you're willing to spend some serious bucks the Theological Journal integrates with Logos 4 which also provides you with up to date commentaries (as well as classic commentaries) and language tools that are easy to use even for beginers.

    Look over their pre-publication list of future books (offered at a discount). With more than 10,000 books available you could have that theological library in your den any time you want.

    Of course the Portfolio Edition costs $4290 and doesn't even include major commentaries.

    A simple Scholars Edition is more reasonably priced at around $630, probably what you would spend on a trip to an out of town library.
