Conway: U.S. Withdrawal Deadline Boosts Taliban in Afghan War.
    By Nathan Hodge

The top U.S. Marine general said President Barack Obama’s announced July 2011 deadline to start withdrawing troops from Afghanistan had given “sustenance” to the Taliban.

“We know the president was talking to several audiences at the same time when he made his comments on July 2011,” Gen. James Conway told reporters on Tuesday. “In some ways, we think right now it’s probably giving our enemy sustenance….In fact, we’ve intercepted communications that say, ‘Hey, you know, we only have to hold out for so long.’”

Hey, Carpro; someone's already taken down that site. Here's another:

So, anyone want to bet on whether they ask him to retire early? Can't have our generals running around telling the truth...er, disparaging the president.

The US hasn't won a war since 1945. No foreigner has ever won a war in Afghanistan. How would we know when we were finished? When all the locals love the US?

    Probably.

He shouldn't have the nerve to say out loud what every knows is true , except liberals. One doesn't broadcast withdrawal dates until the successfull completion of the mission is in sight.

That is clearly not the case in Afghanistan. Liberals have no understanding of war fighting... so they tell the enemy how long they have to hold out. Idiots. Even worse, saboteurs of the nation's war efforts and murderers of our own troops.

I will be very thankful when all of our troops return from Afghanistan. It is a no win situation. Let's bring them all home and then use them to permanently and effectively secure our borders.

Somebody help me out here -- wouldn't that be a violation of the Posse Comitatus Act?

I agree with you, except I don't know if it will ever happen. Last I heard, they gave up about 70 miles of US land from the border for the criminals.

I think that they can assist the Border Patrol, but can not actually do civilian law enforcement stuff like arrest people.

    Emphasis mine

Correct me if wrong, but should this not read CITIZENS; meaning of course legitimate US citizens?

Nope. I said people; I meant people. Most laws do not make distinctions among citizens and aliens.

I didn't realize defending our borders from an invading force (illegal immigrants) is conducting civilian law enforcement. I am absolutely convinced our active duty military could effectively secure our borders in as little as a week with the proper authorization, staffing levels, and equipment.

Well, first our congress would have to declare illegal immigrants as an invading force. I'm optimistic in that regard about as much as I'm optimistic that one day I'll see a pig with wings.

I have to do some research, or have someone educate me. The use of the military in this matter requires caution. We want our president to do what he's supposed to with regard to the well-being of this country; but do we really want this president directing the actions of our military within this country?

The first quote pretty much sums up why we have a problem...because too many people in power hold such a misguided view.

The second offers a solution. But since the right people don't want it...it's likely never to happen.

Rbell, I've stated before on this board that I support putting the military on the border.
