A rant about worship songs

I started getting disgusted then I thought "but I know annsni better than this" so I kept reading. LOL

Gonna go off and sing that repetetive holy holy holy song now. I know it just repeats, makes me wonder if it will ever end, it's not like the angels are up there repeating the same three words over and over and over, right? :BangHead::laugh:

 

My rant would actually about unsingable worship songs. Especially by alternative music bands. Are we supposed to sing or listen? And why does the worship leader always have his eyes closed? And why are the drums so loud?

 

It might wake the dead who are doing their deed for the day by going to church.

Who would ever think that anything loud should happen in the church? Perhaps there might be a funeral going on.

About the repetitive nature of the songs, I agree. This last Sunday we sang a song that repeated the same phrase 8 times everytime through the song. By the way, it was "Blessed be the Name" which is a hymn in most of our hymn books!:smilewinkgrin:

I do agree that some worship songs are unsingable unless the ones doing the singing are professionals.

But he said that we shouldn't bei singing songs that express a desire for a much deeper realtionship with the Lord because the people singing it might not mean it. Don't most of our "acceptable" hymns express desires for God that might be a lie to many singing it? Does everyone really understand and mean "How Great Thou Art"?

I share some of his issues, but most of them have been expressed hundreds of times over.

 

Only 8? God's word repeats, "For His lovingkindness is everlasting" only 26 times.

So-called worship songs are nothing like the Psalms. Nothing. Neither in construction nor performance.

Agreed. Plus the style is rather girly-girly.

 

I can't stand repetitive songs. They are so irritating and impossible for me to listen to and enjoy.

Ooops can't sing that to God because some of his family doesn't like it.

 

Repetition isn't the problem. I just find many modern songs to be lacking. Not all, but many.

We call those "repetitive" worship songs 7-11 worship songs....they have 7 words repeated 11 times.

 

Recently I read a book and the author said that men in the church were typically less masculine than men in the world. I don't think we find that in Jesus. In Jesus we find a humble man but not a feminized man who gave up his masculinity.

Very few churches have programs for men, but almost all do for women. Where churches spend their energy and money it is obvious who they intend to reach. They may say they wonder why men do not do anything, but they have also declared their intent by their outreach and programs. Their actions are speaking louder than their words.

 

Good grief!!!! Where in one's Bible do you read, "Thou shalt not sing songs that have repetitive words?" I guess it must be in I Opinions.

 

Modern worship songs reflect a shift in how we as Christians worship our God through song. With the hymns, those songs for the most part spoke ABOUT God and allowed us through a very old style of song writing and vernacular (thee, thou, thus, art, etc. etc. ) to make statements about our Savior, our God, our Creator, and our Friend. I grew up on the hymns and love them. I grew up in a very large Southern Baptist Church, and there is almost NOTHING like singing Victory in Jesus with a 100 voice choir and 2000 of your closest friends. What I don't like about hymns is, again, most of them were written using a style of music that is not culturally relevant any more. Additionally, we don't say "thee" and "thou" and "thus" and what nots. I don't talk like that, why would I sing like that?

Modern praise songs are loved by millions of Christians the world over. With modern praise songs, artists do a very, very, very good job of enabling the singer to express their heart TO God, not ABOUT him like the hymns do. Although it is fun to sing the old hymns with large crowd, haronizing and the such, I have very rarely experienced the movement of the holy spirit in my life as much as I have when singing modern praise songs. Even when I've been in crowds of 10,000 plus, I've felt like I was all alone, as if it was God and me. That's how it should be, folks. Yes, sometimes the songs get repetetive, I agree. But that is much more the fault of the worship leader and not inherent to most of the songs.

Ultimately, I just wish people of my generation would stop being so adamant that hymns have no place in the modern Christian church, and I wish that older folks or those who don't like modern praise music would not be so insistent and wrongheaded in their belief that it's wrong. Why in the world can't we as Christians just be and let be with some of these issues that are not salvitically relevant. If it has nothing to do with the issue of salvation or living a life honoring to God, who cares?
