Libertarians issue warning to Tea Partiers

WASHINGTON - Looking toward the 9/12 Tea Party events in Washington, DC, Libertarian Party executive director Wes Benedict issued the following warning to Tea Partiers: "Republicans are trying to fool you again."

"There are two kinds of Tea Partiers," said Benedict. "One kind is so blinded by its hatred of Obama and Democrats that it cannot see fault with Republicans. It's the other kind the Libertarian Party is reaching out to."

Libertarian Party staff and volunteers will participate in the Washington, DC Tea Party events on September 12. They will distribute flyers pointing out how the Top 10 Disasters of the 2009-2010 Obama administration mirror the Top 10 Disasters of the 2001-2008 Bush administration.

Benedict continued, "Libertarians have much in common with Tea Party goals of reducing government spending and taxes. While many Tea Party supporters will admit that George W. Bush's administration grew government, Libertarians want to remind Tea Partiers about previous Republican administrations that loved big government.

    ...

"While our nation is declining dangerously right now, a turnaround could be straightforward and simple with Libertarian steps like these: 1. Bring our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan; 2. Stop rewarding failed companies with bailouts; 3. Cut taxes and spending and let the free market work."

    Ron Paul is a republican.

And besides, we know that the ariticle brings up not one good point, so let's reduce ourselves to the level of C.T.Boy and Robert Snow, and laugh at it without discussing it.

I'm disappointed in both of you. I say that as a Tea Partyin' Libertarian.

I would have guessed it. You probably fit right in with the right-wing, tea-party whiners!

Robert, I am not disappointed in you. Ignorant brush off remarks are what you are known for, around here.

The best thing that could ever happen to this country is to have a truly legitimate third party rise up and take the field.

If it were a party like the libertarians it would push the RNC to the center where it is comfortable, leave the left to the DNC, and allow legitimate debate to start about the nature of our country. Right now the two groups up in DC are just playing a big ole game and defrauding the tax payers equally.

    We need a third party.

Libertarians need to be reaching out to ALL who could find themselves in agreement with libertarian principles, not just the ones they think would make for good PR.

Libertarians can go blow smoke in their own conventions. The Tea Party is making a clear voice heard!

It seems to me Mr. Benedict is deliberately understating the broadness of the Tea Party coalition in order to point out the obvious...that Republicans are not always conservative.

Why for? To take some kind of left handed credit for the warning at a later date.?

He should tend to his own house. It's in enough trouble to occupy all his time.

Libertarians understand the the problems but their solutions are two centuries behind the times.

If this is true, at least they do something the Democrats nor Republicans seem to be able to do, and that's understand anything except electoral math and poll numbers.

While I love what the Tea Party has done to reninvigorate our conservative base, I have a feeling that a lot of Republicans will try to "jump on the Tea Party bandwagon" so they can keep their jobs. I've noticed a lot of them during 2008's election referring to themselves as "Reagan Conservatives".

I'm totally supportive of Tea Party events. I'd be extremely cautious of politicians suddenly jumping on board who have had moderate or liberal tendancies.

I think those RINOs who do so will be pointed out for who they are. It won't work.
