    Dr. Caner

First off let me say that I would never try to advocate what Dr. Caner did. We know that he has embelished his life and most of what he has done and the people that he knew.
But putting that aside, I have personally met and spoken with Dr. Caner several times, and here is what I have come to the conclusion of and why they would ask him to speak.
He has a way of getting to the heart of people. While this video was full of humor, if you have ever watched any of his sermons you would understand that is the way that he speaks. But he always uses illustrations and his life to draw it back to the Word of God and the reason we are to do what God has called us to do.
I my opinion, regardless of what he has done, they called upon Dr. Caner because of his ability to "charge the people" to stand with God, not a political party.

    I disagree Kyle.
He is a charismatic and emotional speaker. He would make a good politician.
But he is worthless to the church as a self centered liar.

That whole clip posted so far is all about Ergun.

He was letting the people who did not know him where he came from, and who he was. I don't believe that he is worthless to the church. He has been proven a liar, but does that mean he is worthless? Don't think so. He can still be greatly used by God.

He's an engaging speaker, yes. How he can make the transition from pulpit to politics so easily is difficult to understand. Maybe this is a better arena for him to do his work.

Yet as far as his church involvement goes I think we can all agree that it would be spiritual negligent to allow him in front of our people.

People who are entertainers can easily do that.

I never have been able to stomach his speaking. I hated to listen to him before this mess came out. He is silly and a gusher. He thinks he's funnier than he is.

I said a year ago before I knew anything about his situation that he sounds like a fake.

I actually dislike his speaking as much as his deeds.

And I AM a student with Liberty right now. The program is good even if some of the personnel are off.

Isn't that kind of like saying a car is great even though some parts are poor.

No it really isn't. It's like saying the car is great even if one salesman on the lot is a dirtbag.

That is a good point Luke.

We should be careful not to use guilt by association here.

I will say that the University is to blame in their handling of the situation but we should not throw the whole institution under the bus.

I do however wish the Ball St Cardinals (about 20 miles from me) could have thrown the LU football team under the bus but I digress :)

Liars make good politicians? How about someone who tells the truth like Senator Chuck Grassley from Iowa?

Isn't that like saying the police are responsible for criminals? If Caner had been truthful all along the university would not have had a problem to deal with.

This is really the issue here for him and for all of us. I have heard Dr. Caner speak several times and was blessed by his teaching. It seems the things he apparently was dishonest about would not have really mattered anyway so he threw away a lot of his credibility for nothing.

I think his rise to the top was so fast it got the best of him. He may have gotten carried away with the rapid success and thought no one would notice. That's the rub.... anyone who ends up in a public position like that should know that everything they say will be examined closely. The world is hoping for any believer to mess up.

Titus 2:8 "and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us."
