Newt in 2012

I like most of his views but don't like his life style, couldn't vote for him!

 

I've voted 3rd party for President and all other offices before. Its a viable option.

If it came to Newt or the current President I'd definitely vote for 3rd party. Newt is a terrible candidate for the "social conservative" RNC to nominate. Right now neither party is a viable option in 2 years...but that is 2 years away.

It is unlikely the current President will be re-elected as of now, but the RNC has 24 months to screw up their golden opportunity.

We need wholesale change in Washington. Complete turnover in all elected offices. We need a top to bottom cleaning out. Drop term limits in the mix. Destroy the soft-money contributions loophole. Limit lobbyists access. Change the whole system and save our country. Neither major party has the fortitude or desire to do this so its time to ask them to leave the main stage.

I'm ashamed that my alma mater had Mr Gingrich come and speak in their chapel service. At this point my undergraduate alma mater is becoming nothing more than a Republican clearing house.

 

I tend to agree with what preachinjesus said.

In 1980 Ronald Reagan promised to eliminate both the Departments of Energy and Education. However, he not only failed to do so, but during each year of his eight-year administration both departments' budgets were increased.

I've voted third party several times in presidential elections before.

My only gripe is that in Tennessee no third parties are permitted to have their party's name on the printed ballot. They are all listed as "Independent." If you don't know the name(s) of a third party's candidate(s), you're out of luck.

 

I'm not sure how one goes about changing this situation.

If it's a matter of the TN Legislature changing the law, I wouldn't hold my breath on a law like that passing. (Why make it easier for the "competition"?)

I do plan to look into this sometime after next Tuesday's election.

Also, in Metro Nashville their "touch" electronic voting machines do not allow you to not vote for an office that's on the ballot. (IOW suppose both candidates are pro-choice and you are pro-life.) Maybe if I pick Salty as a write-in..........

I wouldn't vote for either one. One is an egotist and the other an opportunist.

 

Every election after Reagan except last election where I voted for a Florida boy, I haven cast a vote in the presidential election. I don't vote for the lesser of two, either I should vote for the person or I won't.

 

I completely agree with this. During the past election I had an encounter with one of the leaders of our denomination who was using the old "hold my nose and vote" line and I challenged him on it. He had no good comeback as I pointed out there is always a better alternative in the 3rd party system.

I can't recall an election where I didn't abstain from voting in one box or another. Often if a person is unchallenged and I don't care for their policies (this is usually only in local offices) I simply won't check the box.

The arrogance of the two major parties is stunning in light of the shift towards a bona fide third party option.

 

I'm gonna pick on you just a little bit... Might I suggest that if you do not even know the name of the person you wish to vote for, then you probably also do not know enough about that person and their views to cast a ballot in their favor. I is, in part, the multiple choice mentality that has America where it is today. If "A" is not good, and "B" is not good, then the default must be "C."

There is ALWAYS one clear choice in a candidate, but there will NEVER be a perfect candidate. That is politics!

How many here think that we would be reeling from the incredible spending spree and the -- still -- financial crisis that we're now seeing if McCain (for all his flaws) had been elected? Choice (informed!) matters.

 

My friend, read what I said. This last election was the first I cast a vote for president in a while, I voted for Chuck Baldwin, a Florida boy.

I might not play this election game correctly, but my father and a professor both told me if you aren't willing to give all your wealth (as well as maybe at times your family) to the person, don't vote for them. Why, they could end up with it.

 

I knew the name(s) of the the candidate(s) that I voted for. All I am suggesting is that the state of TN do for third parties what they do for the Dems & the GOP. Either that, or do not put any party affiliation for any of the candidates that are running for any office.

BTW, while we're talking about politicians, I did read a very astute observation concerning politicians and their similarity to diapers: Both need to be changed often and for the same reason!

 

If Newt's name is on the ballat---I'm gonna "pencil in" Sarah Palin's name!!! We need "Pretty" in the WH for a change!!

Things are way too far off to be sure. The problem with these people like Newt Gingrich is that while they may hold some political values that look good to the average conservative their personal lives are a disgrace to moral values. An example is Sarah Palin. She talks big but her foul mouth and her family is a ship wreck so I would be had pressed to vote for her as well as Newt Gingrich. If people like this cannot even lead their own lives and family why would I think that they can run a country?
