    NO! Not Hanna Montana!

I had a little beer, whiskey, wine, and champagne when "underage". I survived it.

I love the absolute hypocrisy of the media and this trash journalism. They don't care that she drank, they care about the "story" they might create.

This is a perfect example of why I don't watch the news, read American news, or follow this trash. There is a whole industry set up on hypocrisy and it isn't the church anymore.

My goodness!!!! You'd think that someone with her kind of money would get her teeth straightened!! :saint:

OK, for real.....what do I think?

She already made videos and still pictures, as an underage girl, that are vulgar and sexual in nature.

So - she had a beer in Spain where she was of legal age to drink one. Who cares? I don't.

What do we tell our children? We tell them the standard of decent living and why it's important - from a Biblical perspective. And we model it for them. We tell them that it's not about "giving up" fun things. It's not about God raining on our parade.

It's about laying down all things about us at the feet of Christ and turning control of our lives over to him. "Those who are led by the Spirit - they are called the 'sons of God'". As we are led by the Holy Spirit - He will direct our hearts. We won't have "given up" anything, but instead gained everything.

We tell them that sometimes people we admire the most do INCREDIBLY stupid things. And that doesn't give us permission to do them, too. Nor does it excuse the person we admire for doing them just because we admire them.

And perhaps - just perhaps - we should take a firm step back and examine exactly why we admire those that we do.

    Scarlett,
You made an excellent post, but the part I quoted is very important - teaching our children !!!

The worst part (not part of the story) is that she claims to be a born again Christian :tear:

Our children will look up to celebrities, we need to make sure that these celebrities are living a moral life of high standards.

The easiest card to play to get attention is the Christian card. Since we have absolutely no clue what "church discipline" means in the west one can easily play this card, get "credibility", and then live in the exact opposite direction.

There have been more than a handful of "popstars" who have played this card over the past five years and ended up living like pagans.

I'm just tired of popstars and politicians being able to coral Christians by using "sanctified speech" without any check or discernment.

I don't have to tell my kids (12, 15, 15, 18), they tell me! They are agast that Miley's parents would allow her to throw away her reputation all for the sake of "growing up".

I tell them, again, what the fruits of the Spirit are and we examine her life to see if any of them are there (can't any at present) and then we discuss again why we don't make "celebrities" into role models.

Scarlett's post is right on. This is what I've taught my children since they were little.

My question is not why is Miley drinking a beer at 17, but where are her parents and why are they allowing her to drink at 17? Were they sitting there beside her, teaching her how to have a drink with a meal, or was she out with no supervision doing as she pleased? Big difference between the two.

Where are Miley's parents? Right now they are in the process of getting a divorce.

Many kids today wish for fame--even more than wealth...they want to be famous.

Careful what you wish for...what has all this fame gotten Miley?

A busted family--a trashed reputation, and a bloodthirsty media, hungry for more...

Precisely why I stay as far away from the "star" mags, channels, shows, etc. as I can. The only foray I make into that territory is to be conversant with what the kids are encountering (and only "conversant" in the broadest sense; I have no desire to have lots of knowledge about this).

When The Wife and I were in college the drinking age in NY was 18. We spent many a cold (20 below) afternoon in a warm tavern doing schoolwork nursing a pitcher of beer. What is the 21st century replacement for young adults? Starbucks?

What do we tell our kids? How about when are we going to start being parents and quit pawning our kids off on people like Miley Cyrus to raise and teach them? The problem isn't Miley Cyrus, the problem is parents that don't want to be parents. They'd rather their kids get out of their hair.

Role models for your kids? How about yourself? You are the best role model your kid can have and you will have the biggest influence on their lives. Why is there so much apostacy and unfaithfulness among young Christians? You can point a huge finger at Christian parents. Too lazy to provide a great example for their kids. Too lazy to teach them the bible themselves, instead relying on everyone else to do it. Too lazy to study the bible themselves, thus they are ignorant of what the book says. The kids suffer because of the parents.

I didn't need to see what Miley Cyrus has done in the past couple of years to figure out that she wasn't the kind of role model a kid needs. I figured that out when she first became big. It isn't hard. If parents had any discernment at all they'd have figured it out as well.
