Free anti-virus software

I have been using AVAST for several years now. It is free and seems very good.

I've used AVG for years on numerous units and have no complaints till lately, they seem to have grown their program to BIG :smilewinkgrin: It is still a good product for free.

Due to the large size of avg I have been trying avast on two units and thus far I am pleased with the results.

 

X 2 on the AVG I have used it on a couple of our computers and seems to work fine. Never tried the other one mentioned.

 

Believe it or not, Microsoft Security Essentials gets a decent rating. AVG and Avast are popular. I used Avira Antivir for years.

 

Any of the ones above. I've used AVG on several friend's machines with good success.

I use McAffee online suite myself. Has worked great. I've been hit by incoming stuff a ton of times, but never had anything stick. It also gives me site warnings, even while I search.

 

The ultimate answer to the problem of virus' is to give Windoze the old heave-ho! I've been running Ubuntu for the past three years without any anti-virus software and have had zero infections. In addition to that I've not had to defrag even once and all of the time I used to spend on Saturdays scanning for mal-ware, spy-ware and cleaning my registry have been freed up. The operating system is free and there are over 4,000 free programs of business quality.

You linux users make me sick, you are just too lazy to do the work to use windows. You don't download antivirus software, you don't take care of the system, you are just plain lazy and deserve the disrespect of every windows user! :thumbs:

Been playing with ubuntu myself but doubt I will ever commit since I have way too much windows software.

I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials ever since it was in its original beta. If you just want an anti-virus program then it is the way to go. It is updated regularly and they are pushed through the Windows Update service. It does require that your Windows installation pass verification, but that shouldn't be a problem if your OS is legit.

 

Another Vote for aVast. It's on my wife's after something "broke" the company provided Symantec End Point 11 install. (I've tried everything and couldn't fix it.)

So, considering my wife is a Facebook "crazy" aVast has to be pretty good.

I also use the Immunization Function with Spybot Search and Destroy and the Firewall is enabled.

 

I use both AVG and Spybot. Both have performed well for me.

 

I saw AVG totally fail a test on Youtube by mrizos. Some malware blew right by it! AVG Free2011, right now does not appear to be good at preventing infections, but it is descent for cleaning an infected PC. I use Microsoft Security Essentials. Would like to use Avast. Be sure that you get a good on-demand spyware scanner like Malware-Bytes Anti Spyware. It is free and it is awesome. Maybe get Super Anti Spyware, too.

If you ever get infected, you might want to run Kaspersky's bootable CD with the internet active AFTER you run AVG or Avast or whatever you use to make sure you got it all. There are vids on Youtube about this. In emergencies, I use Dr. Web CureIt---but only for CLEANING a PC that I know is infected and I have no other options. Like my Mom's pc.....my nephew went to p*rn sites and got 15 Trojans on it. Dr.Web took care of it, but it took 18 hours of deep scanning!

Avast is good, agv is second better, also make sure you get malewarebytes.org and do a run everyday.
