That's All I Meant to Convey: ART at its BEST!

Thanks for the reply. I was blessed with the depictions of the many stories from our Bible painted on the ceilings and walls. It was truly a labor of love by a man who time would eventually recognize as a genius in art.

I sure don't think that anyone who looks upon this work of art will suddenly be inclined to genuflect or make the sign of the cross!

A few years ago, a well intended family member purchased for me a crucifix. At first I was angry, but, rather than hurt their feelings. I thanked them, and donated it to a Catholic friend.

I then prayed that the Lord would help me to guide them gently to the place of understanding the difference between an empty cross and the crucifix.

BTW, they have since joined and been baptized into an Independent Baptist Church in Arizona.

I often wonder what would have happened had I looked at their gift and tore into them about the insult and anger I felt with their gift?

Sorry Brother Lamb!

Some of us have the ability to separate our emotions and feelings from pathetic prejudices and enjoy the raw and natural beauty and handiwork of those who came before us.

I would think that the work and artistry of Michelangelo should never be looked at as Catholicism. It began as art, and remains a work of greatness.

I can guarantee you that just because I viewed this wonderful work of one of the greatest artists of all time, I have not felt the urge to genuflect or make the sign of the cross whenever something startles me.

It is truly your loss based on age old biases. I don't like the Catholic church either, but being able to see the work of Michelangelo, something I'll never have the time or money to see in person, was a neat opportunity, and it hasn't changed me in any way. I'm still saved, and love the Lord with all my heart. And I'd never change my opinion of the Catholic church, nor would I consider becoming an apostate.

I have, however, been to several Catholic churches for funerals of family members and friends, and again; I'm still fundamentally saved and going to heaven. :smilewinkgrin:
